Alright time for the soldiers perspective.
Women are already in combat. The question is which ones should we purposely allow into combat positions.
I'm an E5 buck sgt in MISOC formerly known as Psy Op. Ft. Bragg Airborne all the way. We have had females in our ranks for a long time and when it comes to their roles in the military im pretty comfortable in my views and opinions on this matter. You see the army is somewhat archaic in the way it selects its soldiers. They have a base standard for pretty much each MOS. That is the wrong answer. The army needs to make that the basic standard for staying in but combat MOSs need higher physical standards and any female that wants to be in a combat MOS needs to be able to pass at the same standard as the males. Lets be honest nobody really gives a damn if a 42A paper ***** can do pt. They rarely if ever actually see combat. Now if you want to be 13BoomBoom artillery you need to be physically stronger than most. Lifting 155mm shells all day requires a lot of muscle. That said the army is evolving out of its traditional ways of operating. Everyone has to be combat ready and I've seen a lot of POGs operate better in combat roles than some infantry units. (cough 2nd ID sucks cough) My squad leader is a female and that woman smokes the dog shit out of me at pt, shoots expert, just all around outstanding individual. Meanwhile at the back of formation there's three typical army females. Fat, dumpy, on profile, and fresh off of quarters for whatever venereal disease they just caught from the 82nd. Now these are my friends I hang out with them all the time but if you asked me to attach them to my deployment team and take them down range what do you think I'm gonna say? Hell no. Put those coasters in billeting with the dozen pt failures fat asses and shit bags that we dont want hanging around.
So in conclusion each individual MOS needs its own physical standard and everyone should have to meet those standards.
I know males that can only do 19 push ups. I met one that runs a 24 minute two mile. That's pathetic. He was airborne. All we do is run and jump out of planes. How can you be that slow? They are the problem with the army not women. The army what with the draw down and all is just now beginning to get rid of them. They have failed to maintain their own standards and enforce their own rules.
The biggest problem I see happening with women in infantry, artillery, etc would be the pregnancies. Getting knocked up down range (it happens all the time) and getting sent home should be grounds for general discharge. Its screwing your unit and increasing the workload on your peers. Especially since the odds are they're already probably gonna lose soldiers.
