The three classic types of conflicts are always present in one piece, man vs man (straw hats vs cp9) man vs nature (luffy on drum island or any travelling time) or man vs god (luffy vs God Enru).
But the post modern ones, man vs technology man vs reality or man vs author, or even modern ones man vs society, man vs self and man vs lack of god NEVER appears in this style of litterature.
I can understand man vs author because breaking the fourth wall detracts from stories such as these but any sub conflict or even main enemy being different from man vs man would only benift the story, ill give an example. Water sevens a plot that is man vs nature being the climax of this arc is against agua Laguna and not a person and the story was both memorable and different leading into some peoples favorite arc EL.
What im saying is the main character aka luffy has a character who is caged into two types of conflict man vs man and man vs nature and makes him unrelatable to a certain extent.
He never is pitted against part of himself which all people are. He never has to confront society which on some level we all have to. He never has to encounter a situation that is out of his control on an absolute scale like we all have to ie fate/god. He never has to worry about or confront the lack of that absolute like we all have to. I wont touch postmodern as much because we all dont deal with existentialism daily.
Do you think the lack of diverse conflict makes luffy unrelatable?
