he is now becoming a useless character he should die
but he can also become a jounin by trainng hard
i wonder why kishi didn't made him die

this is the answer. also his role in the show is to be naruto's role model and to believe in naruto so that naruto believes in himself.

i mean sure he's a dead character, plotwise, but so are many others. like tenten. waste of flamin airtime. but if u kill em all off it would make the story have no real depth.

likewise, if u dont kill anyone the story also has no depth.

apart from that, killing useless characters is in my eyes way better than let them win against guys who should kill them. they are otherwise just a waste of pages.
