Genkai now seven years older waits for ReXii at the temple of time with sword in hand.

Their is no way I'm wearing these white tights. Even if they call me the Hero of Time.

A wild Minato sensei appears.

Okay now tell me everything you know about Kenjutsu, it's applications, famous users, styles of Kenjutsu, everything you know basically.
Also what type of sword do you favor, longsword, rapier, katana, scimitar, etc.

Sorry for the delay by the way, not even going to make excuses...GTA online, that is all.

Very well sensei. I'll draw on my experiences.

Kenjutsu are techniques that rely on swords. The main use of swords is for slashing and cutting. This can be accomplished by just simply swinging a sword or infusing chakra in it to make it sharper and more potent. Samurai are a warrior class that is well known for infusing chakra into their blades to fight. Sasuke infuses lighting into his blade to make it more powerful. He also conducts lighting into his blade to disperse it at the enemy in a wide range. The seven swordsmen of the mist are probably the most well known kenjutsu users. Each of their blades has unique abilities such as the blade Samehada which eats chakra and the blade Shibuki which has explosive tags in it. Kenjustu can also be used to cause genjutsu. An example of this would be swinging a sword back and forth to trigger a genjutsu when seen by and opponent. Kenjustu is broad in it's techniques and can easily be combined with ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu. I'm really not sure about specific styles of kenjutsu.

I'm partial to the one-handed long sword. I think it has a good combination of speed and power when swung.

Good, now tell me all you know about Kenjutsu in real life, and the different styles that have existed throughout our history as a species, and what is it that makes swords so appealing, especially in movies and books and games.

Here I go.

Without using any sources Kenjutsu styles have been around since swords were created. The earliest styles were probably more brute force than anything with an actual form. During the middle ages swords were used to fight with shields. This was most commonly done by knights. Since knights wore heavy armor their movements were slow and their fighting style was aimed at powerful sword slashes while maintaining a strong defense. This was at the cost of their speed. This fighting style was mostly associated with Europe. In Asia the warriors that use swords or knifes are known as samurai and ninja. Samurai use long slender swords that are light to slash at quick speeds. They don't use a shield so the sword also acts as their only defense. Ninja can use the same type of swords but more commonly use shorter swords closer to the size of a knife. This is because Ninja perform assassination missions and knifes can easily be concealed. Fencing is another kenjutsu style that has been around for a long time. In this style the swords are thin like a rod but sharp at the tip. Fencers fight by jabbing with their sword. In the middle east people fight with scimitar which have a curved shape. I'm not familiar with how to fight with scimitars.

I think swords are appealing to people because they act as an extension of a persons beliefs. Unlike shooting a gun a sword is sung at the enemy. The way a person fights with a sword speaks to their ideals and pride. I think people tend to be drawn more to the personalities that wield the sword more so than the sword itself, and in turn people seek to represent themselves through swords. I also think people like swords because their is a good balance between control and power when they are used. Guns are the extreme end of this where people have little control with them but gain a lot of power. Taijutsu is the other extreme where people have a lot of control but less power compared to a sword or a gun. Truthfully, I don't know much about kenjutsu.

You say you know very little but you have done very well, now i'm assuming from the title of this thread, that you wish to train with a broadsword.
A weapon with two edges, a balance between speed and power, the balanced weight of such a weapon allows for quick recovery from failed attempts, not as quick as the katana or other lighter weapons though.
The style of fighting with such a weapon involves power and precision, coupled with wild attacking motions and sometimes literal brute force.
Is this the style you wish to learn.

Thank you and yes I wish to learn how to fight with a broadsword. I assume that your personal style is to fight with a chokutō like Sasuke does, correct?

Well my personal style is based on fencing mainly if i do engage in Kenjutsu, since i have the most experience with that or Katana's but everyone uses Katana's.
So the broadsword, first i want you to begin by taking some practice swings. Make ten swings using one hand, then ten using both hands.
Tell me the differences you experience by doing this.

Genkai takes a broadsword into her right hand and holds it by this hilt. She then points the sword upward at a 45 degree angle. Rotating her arm she swings the sword forward until the it is parallel with the ground. The repeats this process performing 9 more swings. She then takes the sword in both hands and swings ten more times.

From performing those practice swings I got a feel for the weight of the sword and how long it takes to move it. This lets me gauge when I need to start swinging the sword to attack or to defend myself. Swinging the sword in one hand also made me realize and emphasize the fact that being right hand dominant is going to affect my ability to use the sword. It is clear to me that if I use one handed swings I should use my right hand. When I swing with two hands I can get more power out of the sword but my swing is slower. I'm partial to one handed swings.

Good, now show me what you have learned so far, come at me with your blade.

Minato says this, raising a single one of his unique kunai in a reversed grip in his right hand, beckoning his student forth.

Prepare yourself sensei!

Genkai stands 5 m away from Minato with a broad sword in her right hand. She holds the sword by the hilt and takes off running quickly closing the gap between them. Genkai arrives 1 m short of Minato with her right foot in front of her. She leans forward putting her weight on her right foot and extends her right arm across her body while bending her right elbow. This puts this sword pointing to Genkai's left slightly off angled behind perpendicular of her running direction. With one motion Genkai swings the sword from her left to right in a sideways slash aimed at Minato's right oblique.

Minato watches as the female ninja advances on his location, her heavy broadsword in hand, he focuses his eyes on her movements, as she enters striking distance, watching as she pulls the blade back, bending her elbow, her right leg leading the assault, grounding herself, the sword comes from her left, Minato's right.
Simply kicking off his right leg he cartwheels, slapping his bare hand on the top flat of the blade, knocking her off balance and ground himself, as he swings his kunai slowly in his right hand, swiping it towards her throat still in a reversed grip.

To slow!!

Very well as you wish Sensei

Genkai stares at Minato in a dead heat. He now stands 6 m in front of Genkai. The temple clock reaches the top of the hour and lets out a large chime. Genkai takes off running intent on stabbing Minato. The sword is carried in her right hand. As she runs she releases wind chakra through her right hand. The wind surrounds the sword forming a tightly fit rotating barrier of wind. Genkai gets within 2 m of Minato and puts her weight on her right foot. In one motion she bends her knees down and jumps forward and upward off her right foot at Minato. She jumps so that her head is slightly above Minato's chest (Genkai is 4'-3"). At the peak of her jump she thrusts her sword forward into Minato's chest aiming for his heart. The rotating wind will cut Minato should he try and grab the sword.

Oh you want to use Jutsu, only fitting that i can do the same then no?

Minato says this as the thrust heads towards him, simply using his FTG technique to teleport to a seal he secretly placed on the blade as his bare hand made contact with it. Causing him to appear clear of the rotating wind catching the student off guard.
Appearing clear of the thrust he delivers a vicious backhand slap, sending his student skidding away.

If you rely on jutsu alone you have a high chance of being outclassed here. I suggest you get back up and use the sword traditionally.

Genkai gets back up with her left hand on the back of her head. She stands up and walks over to a rack on the wall and grabs another broad sword. She walks back over to the sword she was using, grabs it, and stabs it straight into the ground so the seal is below the ground.

Well, I should have seen that coming. It's my first time meeting someone with space-time ninjutsu. No jutsu it is then. By the way I've been using one handed sword techniques because I plan to fight with a shield eventually. However, their are times when I will need to use two hands so now is a good time to learn.

Genkai stands 5 m in front of Minato with her head throbbing like a hooker who had just been slapped by her pimp. She grasps her sword with her right hand and takes off running as she has done before. When she gets within 2 m of Minato she takes her left hand and places it on the hilt.

If your as strong as the hype surrounding you then you shouldn't need to dodge this. Where is your sword?

In one motion Genkai uses both hands and raises the sword vertically in the air. She gets within 1 m of Minato and swings the sword downwards in an arc down the center of Minato's body. With the height difference the sword will first make contact with Minato's chest as opposed to head or shoulder if heights were close to each other.

In a real battle when FTG is used do you have to state you placed a seal on something when you perform the move or just say you touched it at the time?

I post a jutsu to show the seal being placed, of course if you react differently based on what you know, compared to what your character knows, it's called metagaming. xd
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My body is my sword, i have no need to carry a traditional weapon any longer.

Minato says this as the student dashes in close, swinging her sword with both hands vertically, as she does so Minato crosses his arms in an x shape over his face, appearing to leave his chest exposed, then at the last second two solid blades of caramel shoot from is elbows far harder than earth, blocking the sword swing.
He then with the sword jammed in to the Caramel, firmly kicks his student in the ribs. Sending her flying back.

Now what have you learned about the limits of not using chakra enhanced techniques?

If you don't use chakra enhanced techniques your at a severe disadvantage. Chakra is used to enhance a blades natural abilities. For example wind can sharpen a blade and earth can make it harder. By not using chakra your limited to just normal sword swings. Normal sword swings can be blocked with ease by expending chakra as you did to make the caramel. Basically in battle your opponent is going to use chakra to form various objects. To be able to cut through these objects a sword will need to be infused with chakra in some way.

Is caramel a CE of yours?

Caramel was a friends CE, it's mine now basically since he left. :(

But moving on, okay so you know how chakra in it's base form reacts with certain weaponry.
What can you tell me of the advanced forms of chakra infusal in to blades, do you know of any techniques used by swordsman to enhance there weapons destructive potential?
