Why would Hagoromo create the tablet as he did?

Why would he make it so only the Uchiha side could view it? While I'm there, why even make it so portions could only be read with different dojutsu?

Either it's counter productive, or he had reasoning behind it. If so, what was his reasoning?

So far it seems illogical to do so

He wanted to give the Uchiha descendants another chance at being the successors (or at least co-successor) by giving them the information. He wanted to teach them about understanding from beyond the grave.

He probably created it before the birth of his sons. Or before he learned that his eldest son was an ass hole.

Necro's answer seems appropriate. He probably didn't anticipate that his Elder Son would have so much spite because of his decision. That, or there is something we are missing here and we need more back story on Rikudou, which I would want regardless.

I don't know....perhaps the elder son created it, so one day his descendent will unlock his eyes? (Ems)

If I recall, the eldest son didn't lash out until after SO6P was dead (it said he chose the younger on his death bed), so there was that.
It's also possible that the Senju had something similar but the eldest son/some Uchiha destroyed it.

He probably anticipated passing his knowledge to his first born (as tradition usually dictates) only to find out that he preferred his youngest son's ideals.

True, true.

Why would the eldest choose power if he already knew it failed from his grandmother?

My second answer is that the tablet was really created by the Elder Son, which is how there is so much spite going on with this story: The story itself is biased.

Seems entirely in the realm of possibility.

The tablet was initially written by Rikudō Sennin, a man wielding Dōjutsu. The Younger Son received a specific inheritance that manifested as his Father's physical prowess, as such, he could not have deciphered what was written. Only those that yield the acquire Dōjutsu, can read it; the less progressive state the Dōjutsu is in, the more abstruseness the stone tablet becomes.

That said: The stone belonged to either son, and it is likely that Rikudō Sennin wanted the contents to be read fully once both his sons were in life harmoniously. Your proposal would be configured on the former statement, for if not, why would the Rikudō deliver his writing to his Younger Son? The material written would be illegible.

The reasoning: unity

He wants his sons to work together. While he found his younger son to have the right path to peace, he did not wish to exclude his other son.

Hoping that his elder son could see past the hatred and jealousy and to use his power to aid his brother, the Hagoromo likely left the Tablet to Uchiha in order to help them as an advisor and one with insight/wisdom/knowledge when it was needed.

Basically, it would serve to break the idea that the cycle of hatred is based on. While the Younger was chosen, it wasn't done without thought and consideration. In fact it was done knowing that younger could not achieve this goal without the elder to watch over and help him.

Perhaps we should just wait and see.
