Why was sasuke graduating late?

I know most people don't view the anime as credible source material, but I believe it had something to do with having the nine tails jinchuriki and the last uchiha (in Konoha) in the same squad.

So my guess is that since the ultimate goal was to have them on the same team, it would make since to have them graduate at the same time (even though naruto failed a couple times before)

I think when ninja fail in the genin test they can re take it many times in the same year
that what happened to naruto he failed then he showed iruka his strength (chapter 1)then Iruka let him pass the test .
Sasuke was born first but still he is the same year as naruto the difference between them is just few months .

But it wasn't just a few months. The massacre happened when he was 8 years old and he graduated at 12 years old which is like four years later. And he started at around age 7. He couldn't have been taking that long to recover could he?

Didn't he have one of the second lowest grades in cooperation? If so, then it doesn't matter if he was a genius or not.. Just like in the chuunin exams only Shikamaru became a chuunin. Sasuke didn't have the right attitude to become one.

Yup. Naruto and sasuke graduated at normal age but itachi graduated at young age because he was special.

Maybe due to depression sasuke had trouble with learning and thus didn't pay attention in the lessons?
There hasn't anything been mentioned about sasuke failing tho.
We will just have to assume that Kishi forgot about it.

I just realized that Naruto graduated the Academy at a younger age than Sasuke.



That's not an excuse. Naruto was the Jinchuuriki of Kurama and was watched by Hiruzen as well.

and ppl have the nerve to call sasuke a genius.
What makes it worse is the fact that Naruto took it 3 times and still graduated younger than him.

That or Iruka simply didn't allow him to graduate yet. He had to have the right attitude to become a ninja and that was the same with Naruto. Sasuke was arrogant and didnt cooperate much but he was still a genius. Naruto on the other hand, didnt cooperate nor do good in his studies but after numerous times of failing he finally graduated when he proved his worth by saving the village in a sense when learning the forbidden technique to perform shadow clones. In order to pass and graduate you must become like a true ninja. To do that you have to cooperate because that comes in with teamwork and you have to be able to pass the test except for in Naruto's case. There are two things starting with c:

capability to be able to do things and perform techniques. This is obviously helpful when on the battlefield.

As well as cooperation. Especially good when you are put into a team and are required to use teamwork.
