Because Rin was his only ray of light.

theres just something changing about seeing your girlfriend murdered apparently in cold blood by your best buddy, after months of rehabilitation with the sole purpose of returning to them.

OBITO BRO THERES OTHER FISH IN THE SEA...
SHE NEVER EVEN WANTED YOU FAM, YOU GOT FRIENDZONED WHILE SHE WANTED KAKASHI

1. You have no idea how powerful love is. The argument "there are other fish in the sea" shows how bad your comprehension of the term "true love" is. If you think "okay, she's gone, next one pls." then you didn't feel true love in your life, sorry. Obito loved her so much, that he would've done everything to keep her safe and happy. That is a really distinguished attitude.

2. It doesn't matter if love is returned or not, Obito cared so much for Rin. More than he could care for anyone/anything else. He wanted her to be safe, healthy and happy. Just look at his final words, before he thought he would die and ended up in Madaras cave.
Also, he didn't start a war because of Rin. Are you still too ignorant to realize that?
He started a war because the world, which made so many people suffer, was cruel, so he wanted to change that.. in order to avoid that someone else would have to to experience a loss like he did.

So, in other words ... you didn't give much shit about her death? What you felt clearly wasn't love. I have seen people commit suicide over the death of a loved one. Anyhow, as for Obito, then he was an orphan and an outcast within his Clan. He even makes the reference to Naruto and it made his decision to kill the clan with that duplicitous, nationalistic runt easier. Rin was the only thing that mattered in his life. Her death, and the circumstances surrounding it, became a trigger and a catalyst for him. He finally understood the fragility of ninja life in the black-politics of the villages and sought to change the system.

Obito's motivations simply became laughable the second he started listening to Naruto's and Kakashi's half-backed, kindergarten speeches laced with the philosophies of third grade fools in the manga; both terribly written, pieces of trash characters. No wonder he fell down hard after his mask came off. That became one serious metaphorcial crack in his character that became the cause for his ruin. As if any character can be spared once Naruto and Kakashi collectively urinate on their characterization.

Naruto and Kakashi pissed all over Sasuke and Obito.
