Hello all, and welcome to my Captain Smoker thread! Captain Smoker is my all-time favorite character of One Piece, and I think deserves a much bigger fan base than he has. Being the White Hunter he is, he has endured many run ins with pirates all across the sea, from the East to the Grandline and is now in pursuit of the soon to be pirate king, Monkey D. Luffy. So without further or due, I will now go into explanation, broken down into 5 parts, of why Captain Smoker is my all time favorite character!

Personality
He's a very laid back marine who never brags, not even after a victory, which I think is a great trait to have. He’s extremely ambitious and focused, still having Luffy as his #1 priority after so long, and not even being phased by his powerful association with the Pirate Gods.
And let’s not even act like he didn’t have the best intro in the series. He had and still has the most badass introduction I've ever seen in all the manga. He's the first marine who showed real compassion for his town and its civilians, or even show any interaction with them. The way the little girl bumped into him and spilled her ice cream and her dad got all scared. I think still think this was the most awesome thing I've seen in the manga, because when somebody of his rank and description is caring enough to kneel down to a child like that and give them some more money to buy another ice cream cone... I can't even express how just freaking cool that is. I'm just really big on small acts of kindness and signs of affection, and that one right there took the cake.
And aside from that, his introduction 'battle' was awesome too. He saw Luffy, got goosebumps from being reminded of Roger, and set a goal to beat him. He took him out so quick he had to get saved by his dad, and that said a lot about his skill for his rank, since all the others went out super quick prior to him. I guess it’s kind of fair though, since that was Luffys first encounter with a Logia fruit.
Dudes a straight up boss, bottom line.
Power
He has an absolutely amazing, awesome Devil Fruit and reaps it for the benefits. The Smoke Fruit (I know it has another name but that's just what I call it) is my favorite because it's a Logia type (which is also my favorite, because most all the Logia owners I've seen so far are just awesome, Enel and Caribu coming to mind since I dislike Blackbeard), has a cool effect, and is an elemental power (I'm especially fond of elemental powers). It's also nice that they took his power into consideration when coming up with his design, making everything about him a grayish/white and whatnot. Not to mention it's extremely unique, from my perspective any way.

I also like his sword and how it utilizes a sea stone. That's extremely smart, and the design of the sword is very cool too. It's distinct enough to know it's his when we see it, but not too different to the point of just being silly or plain dumb (ie, elephant swords).
Another neat perk about him is his great sense of hearing. Very related to his title of the "White Hunter", since hunters require keen ear and all that.
Justice
He has the best sense of justice I've seen in the manga. He's not power hungry, isn't absorbed with his rank, isn't in a rush to become an admiral, or any of that other crap. He's just concerned with doing what he's supposed to do as a Marine, throwing pirates in the slammer. He does what needs to be done, and doesn't fight dirty. He has a good sense of justice, powerful morals and a good heart as well, letting the Strawhats go after cooperating with them to bust out of Crocodiles cell. He could have easily took advantage of the moment and attempted to round them up, but instead let them go and called it a one time thing. He didn't enough punish or get mad at Tashigi for letting them go. He was satisfied with it as long as she had pride in her choice, and believed it was justice. Another great quality of a leader, one who lets his subordinate have a mind of his/her own and not nail their way of thinking into their mind.
And lastly, this kind of goes with what I was just saying, but he thinks independently as well and isn't just gov dog. The way he makes choices, accepts and declines promotions and is in control of what he does, he's his own man. He's the boss and serves nobody. Captain Smoker is just an awesome guy.
Captain Smoker is an extremely awesome character. I love everything about him, it's almost as if he was a character designed just for me. He's the perfect marine with the perfect power and the perfect ambitious personality with a softer side with him to even it all out. And that's why he's my favorite character
