Why so much hate for Jiraiya?

I don't understand it either.

Jiraiya is an incredibly strong character, he has some of the highest stats in the series in BASE. He also has access to over 40 known jutsus, dangerous ones.

Manga Facts:
Drugged Jiraiya = Armless Orochimaru (> Hebi Sasuke)
Base Jiraiya > KN4
Jiraiya > Kisame
Jiraiya > Kakashi >/= Wind Arc Naruto
Jiraiya = Itachi
Sage Jiraiya =/> Nagato

Yet, Nagato and Itachi consistenty make it on most top 10's, yet Jiraiya does not despits his comparisons to them. In fact, he's lucky to make it onto top 15's. At this point, people consider damn-near everyone more powerful than Jiraiya and it doesn't make any sense; there are actually people ranking Kisame above him, even though Kisame admitted to not being close to Jiraiya.

He said that J-Man could take out the Six Paths of Pain with intel, not Nagato himself - big difference.

Pein said if Jiraiya knew Pein's secret, which turned out to be the real Pein - Nagato. Although, some people consider Nagato more powerful than Pein, while others incorrectly consider Nagato fodder without Pein.

Jiraiya was great. I think he's lower on the list because the "out of sight, out of mind" situation. If he had been resurrected (and not at the bottom of a lake) people would remember just how strong he was.
