No, in our world he is a traitor but in nv he is a hero.
Sure on the surface people don't know the truth but he knows the truth himself and the people close to him along with the leaders like the Kage of the rock village they all acknowledged him as a hero.

People like bad people, they just don't like dirty people.
Danzo was in the background and bad but he didn't physically get blood on his hands so he is not regarded as despicable as Itachi.
Even though he pushed the actions forward people ultimately blame the ones who look bad not the ones with bad intent.

Well, I'm pretty sure most people would say that Itachi is stronger then Danzo so if he tried then Itachi could just have killed him. Also, Shisui gave Itachi the Kotoamatsukami to try the thing that Shisui did but Itachi was just like "Nah F that" and began to kill everyone.
