Why people say the kages did a terrible job agaisnt Edo Madara?

IMO: they actually put a great effort, but EDO Madara is like a little bit too much for anyone in Narutoverse.
They even pushed Madara to use Perfect Susanoo and only between Oonoki and Tsunade they dealt with the 25 susanoo clones.....

Honestly I think they did great, and don't think of them as weakling as many others do. What do you think about them?

Mei did some good stuff with her lava and suitons at the beggining, and A also broke incomplete susanoo with Oonoki's help...... But later in the fight, I agree, they became burdens

I think he means the amount of effort put into the battle rather than the amount of success that came out of it, because judging by the success alone it was a complete and total failure.
