Ok I don't understand why almost of people on this base hated him so much.. I mean he a great character and very complex.. have so much potential as a good villain.
Change your avi and sig A.S.A.P., you disgrace Shank's character by defending Pedobito.

Actually people liked tobi a lot that the revelation of tobi as obito made them hate him more than they used to like as tobi, as he was nerfed almost all the time as obito while he soloed nearly all as tobi. Best example is how he was able to keep up with two jounin and two perfect jinchuuriki and controlled akatsuki with his mask on lost his soloness and badassery and lost to kakashi in most pathetic way while his mask came off.

Kills countless people and blamed Kakashi that had nothing to do with the Kirigakure Hunter Nin making Rin commit suicide to protect Konoha.

So damn complex...

Bearing in mind he'd already been mindr*ped by madara at this point.

I think obito was actually a great character. The telling of his story by kishi however couldhave been done much much better. It didnt need to be dragged out for as long as it was - that's what pissed most people off.

Dude, Tobi's the best villain.
Tobi was a better villain that obito. However tobi was operating with madaras will. Tobi was a badass character before he got all emotional but hey.... as naruto said: "He didnt need to wear a mask anymore.".

Tobi is Obito. Whatever tobi did, Obito did as well. It's the same character. Can't believe i need to explain this..

I love his character, especial his transition to the dark side. It showed his inner turmoil. He was corrupted by Madara and realized IT is the only answer. Its not because of Rin, people need to think bigger. Its the accumulation of his life negatives that greatly influenced who he was.

And in the end, to have him reconcile his ideology after realizing his mistakes make him a solid character who brings up questions of morality and corruption, and what death of friends can do to someone. All of this adds to his complexity and makes him more believable.

There is a big difference. Obito has a face, but Tobi doesn't.

He's the great unknown, the evil without a face. He is everyone and no one. This is so effective because it leaves it up to the reader to decide what's underneath the mask, and whatever they end up imagining will be, for them, twenty times better than anything Kishi could deliver. Its hard to match this level of threat.

We just didn't know who Tobi was at the time. That's it. Doesn't change the fact that he was Obito and Kishi planned for him to be Obito. In the end, Tobi is Obito. That's it.

You're not seeing this from a reader's standpoint at the time where Tobi was yet to be unmasked, you're just looking back on the story as a whole now that its complete. Obito posed far more of a threat with a mask than without it. Obito at least was once the kid who wanted to be Hokage, he once was a good person, he is redeemable. Tobi? He is no one. You can't redeem no one, you can't relate to no one, he is just this man with a goal meant for the greater good and he will destroy anyone and anything that stands on his way for the sake of his goal.

That sounds boring. there has to be a reason he became like that to want his goal.

I could argue with that, but rather, I'll say that while it might not work in a finished manga, it works marvellously an ongoing manga where the villain is yet to show his face, so it just sparks more discussion on who this mysterious figure really is.

he was cool with the mask. soon as it came off he became lame real quick with the repeatitive speeches and constant whining. not to mention the tiring numerous rin flashbacks. i dont hate him thoug, just not my cup of tea

Dont flatter yourself into thinking i need tobis identity explained to me please because it is a fookish presumption.

What i am saying is that prior to tobi unmasking himself as obito, obito lived according to madaras will/manipulation. In regards to his own identity he himself said he was 'no one' after it was revealed that he was not actually madara. He was lost in his mind. The only thing keeping him being his memory of Rin. However, that said, Obito only came to his senses during the latter part of the war arc.

Prior to that he himself had disgarded his own identity.
