Are you serious? As strong as Lee, Naruto and Gaara were for three genin, they still were nowhere near jonin level (maybe Gaara was close, but still not jonin level), yet alone low-kage level like Kakashi.
Kimimaro wouldn't stand a chance against Kakashi.

There was no one available. Konoha was still recovering from the war with Suna and all high-ranked ninja, including jonin and ANBU were sent to missions, either to guard the borders against possible assaults on weakened village, or to make sure the relations with other villages have not deteriorated, or to act as spies to predict potential attacks. Such are the consequences of war.

These tasks were more important than bringing back a 12-year old genin with psychological problems, so it's no surprising such a mission was given to a bunch of genin and chunin. Cruel reality, I know, but that's the way it is. U_U



The risk for the village posed by Sasuke's betrayal was only potential and even if it was to happen, it would take years before Orochimaru could accomplish that. Jirayia knew about it, so Tsunade likely knew it as well.
The danger of the village being attacked, however, was very real and it could happen virtually any moment.

1. No jounins were avalible..... there were more important missions at that time.

2. Sound four and so on.. would've gotten their asses handed to them..

And once he has it, it's all over. Raikiri will break through Kimi's bones like through butter and it's all over.
Also, the claim that his speed matched Kakashi's is laughable.

a raikiri really part 1 he has to power that up kimmimaro could just shoot one of his bones in the guys face GO!

further more if they got in to a taijutsu fight he lose apart from the swipes maro can just shoot bones that go very fast {putting kakshin on defense since he has no sand to block them} from wherever and pierce him heck kakshi can do a flip or substitute jutsu get behind him with a kunai and kimmimaro could just shoot a bone from his back spine neck leg and pierce him in vital places.
