1. It's an explosive clone
2. It's a genjutsu
i'm gonna elaborate more on genjutsu in this fight because it's the most important factor here, the reason is that once you're up against itachi you're up against genjutsu.

Avoiding eye contact doesn't help either bcuz itachi has demonstrated he could put his opponent under genjutsu just by pointing at them or even without eye contact

No, of course. But, itachi has more possibility to beat minato. Ex: eyesight, amaterasu, totsuka, etc. none of minato jutsu will break susano'o. Itachi can thinking without worry But minato must watch out for totsuka

I give him that but minato does take that long to think and his base speed is faster than itachi's ... not too mention itachi has a host of jutsu and strategies to deal with once minato is on the offensive ... and itachi doesnt really have charkra reserves to fight using genjutsu and his black flames for too long ... im sorry i know itachi is strong but i dont think he'll make it

huff.. The reason why he isn't fight tobi is he didn't knew that tobi is a threat for sasuke. And tobi once said that if itachi know about him, tobi would have death. Itachi greatest achievement is protecting konoha from tobi. As long as itachi live tobi won't attack konoha because the promise "don't touch konoha". If itachi weak then maybe konoha would have been destroyed by akatsuki.

If Minato puts a seal on Itachi, what will he do, use Amaterasu on himself so that Minato cannot teleport onto him?

He outlasts Itachi with FTG. Itachi cannot keep up his impenetrable Susanoo defence for a long time because it simply uses up too much chakra. The moment Itachi is too tired, BOOOOM! Minato uses the simple Rasengan, FTG combo. So simple yet so, so effective.

Itachi has no way to hit Minato because of his FTG. Minato has a way to hit Itachi. Itachi's techniques use alot of chakra. Minato's techniques do not use alot of chakra. You work it out.

Alot of people will be unhappy with this. Heck, they'll probably even -rep me for this. LMAO. They probably think this is too easy for Minato; that's because it is. I know it's annoying that such cheap tricks can be so effective, that's why so many people have a hard time accepting the blatent, yet painful truth. Do you see now? Not every analysis of a battle has to be so complicated. When it comes to shinobi like Minato, the obvious answer is most likely the correct one.

Keep something in mind, though. He may be able to FTG at random intervals, but the Sharingan MAY OR MAY NOT be able to give Itachi the jump on where he's going to appear. Not just that, but if they have prior knowledge, then Itachi knows exactly what he's going to do, and how he's going to go about doing it.

Ok i agree the hokage is generally the strongest shinobi in the village. But itachi at that time was about 8 years old whilst minato was much older. So how could itachi compete with minato at that age. However im not saying itachi at his prime is a better shinobi than minato ( I cbf explaining ). So that makes your 1st point irrelevant . Just call them 50/50 because its really up to kishi to decide who will win.
