Innocent people? Not so much. Btw insinuating that he's arrogant in comparison to the other Uchiha is simply laughable at the least. Just look at the others in comparison:

Yes, he used Tsukiyomi on Sasuke twice and each time was 24 hrs. And it happened only twice in 7 years. At the end of the day, doing that redirected Sasuke's hate, instead of him hating the village, Itachi was willing to allow the one he loved most to hate him and take out his anger by killing him in the end. Also, he never beat Sasuke near to death. Naruto gave Sasuke a worse beating at the Valley of the End fight.

He was horrible bro,son and clansman if u ask me
i would have put hiruzen's staff in @$$e$ of elders in that situation

Sasuke had a broken arm in the fight with Itachi, with Naruto not.
Ok. And Sasuke had to deal with stage 1 Kyuubi Naruto and was pushed into using CM. While also taking a few falcon punches to the face. That's much worse imo than a broken arm that can be healed in literally a few minutes with just medical ninjutsu in their world.

-Well imo, he was a decent bro considering that Sasuke would have been dead long ago if it weren't for him. Also, Sasuke wouldn't be anywhere near as powerful as he is now without Itachi.
-As a son, he was decent too. He did what his father asked him to do and seemed pretty respectful. Then when he made it clear that he wasn't for the clan's limited way of thinking in front of his dad and those 3 cops, his father gave up on him.
-As a clansmen, yeah he was. He betrayed them.

That would have been the worst thing to do at the time, considering that the village suspected the Uchiha of the Kyuubi attack and expected them to be plotting something anyway. For the Uchiha head's own son to hurt the elders of the Leaf, that would just cause the tension to rise and the Uchiha would actually be persecuted in that instance. The war would actually occur then.

maybe but still
he supported the village which itself destroyed more life just to selfishly protect his bro emotionally and mentally scarring him.
As a son his father and mother were pretty loving so he canont be excused for killing them
He basically tried to achieve everything on his own and failed miserably til his death.

I can understand your point of view and actually agree with most of what you said. But then again, they live in a world where kids are growing up to be shinobi, which are basically assassins. And in the Naruverse, they pretty much only have two sides, either you support your village and try to protect the people in it, or you're a missing-nin/traitor. Either side just does it for their own personal gain. Killing isn't justified, but there's no denying that they all do it at some point or another. It's not exactly entirely Itachi's fault that things went down the way they did, especially considering that the Uchiha refused Hiruzen's negotiations and Danzo stopped Shisui's KA attempt. Also, it's not quite that selfish when his clan was dying no matter what he did. It's also not that bright to take things out of context like that. Yes, he did do that to Sasuke, but then again it prevented Sasuke from wanting to destroy the village at an earlier point, which he most certainly would not succeed at and die as a result from any attempts to do so.

Also, yes he did fail and he attempted to do everything on his own. Humans tend to do that. Some just fail harder than others. ;) He admitted that and regrets that. But then again, he and Shisui were the only ones that were against the coup in the clan and Shisui died, so he was basically left alone in that regard. Then, the manga gives us only one alternative in which if Itachi had told Sasuke, then maybe he could have convinced everyone against the coup. But I seriously doubt that, considering that Hiruzen, Itachi, and Shisui could not do that earlier. I also don't see an 8 year old grasping the gravity of the situation at that age or being able to remove tension that has existed between the Uchiha and Konoha since the days of Tobirama and Madara.

Note: There's not really an "excuse" here. Itachi wasn't proud of what he did. He just wanted to protect the Uchiha clan's honor and protect innocent citizens in Konoha that had no part of the conflict, while protecting at least one Uchiha (the rest of the clan was going to be annihilated if he did nothing), which he did do in a way. However, he did know that those means were bad and felt it was only right to die at the hands of another Uchiha, Sasuke. He also stated that he wanted to do things for Sasuke through his death, meaning he wanted him to become stronger, but also to feel a sense of relief by killing the man who ruined his life. He felt regret and guilt, he did show that. He wasn't proud of what he did, he just felt that as a shinobi he had to protect a greater span of people. But if you were to ask him if he was a good son, brother, clansmen, w/e, he'd say that he was terrible & even pretty much admitted that he failed at being a brother.

i agree except few points
Hiruzen's negotiation nvr happened
There might have been other viable option but itachi choose this one
Basically uchihas were fool in thinking they could live with their enemies in peace after creation of village.

Hiruzen left the code unchanged so that Itachi can return to visit.

But Akatsuki would want Itachi to bring Kisime.

If Hiruzen found out he brought in a missing kin pet shark, he would be furious!

He would have killed Itachi right where he stood.

So Itachi only showed up after Hiruzen died; it's to avoid incurring his Lord's wrath.

-Obito stated that the negotiations failed, meaning that some offers were obviously made, but rejected. Also, the fact that Shisui believed that the Uchiha were not going to budge & that a KA to forcively get Fugaku to change his view and cooperate pretty much confirms that they were not working, nor would they ever.

-The manga gives no other options. Talking didn't work and both Konoha and the Uchiha were too stubborn. Both sides are at fault here. The one alternative it gives is telling an 8 year old to convince everyone, because apparently the adults that know more about the issue couldn't, but that in itself sounds too ridiculous.

-lol, I agree. Maybe they should have listened to Madara and left Konoha when they had the chance.

He invaded so that he could make sasuke feel like total sh*t, ultimately driving him out of the village. Tsunade became hokage after the 3rd died but she still took orders from the village elders I think. It's a theory but since Hiruzen died, it would be a free for all for danzo and since he doesn't trust the uchiha, he would target sasuke and steal his eye He might even kill sasuke.

I say this coz after the time-skip sai was sent on a secret mission, to kill sasuke. On the bingo book, he had a higher value than kabuto. Like wtf he was missing for 3 years and he becomes more wanted than oro's subordinate? Danzo wanted him badly so I'm assuming that if sasuke stayed in the leaf instead of defecting, danzo would have done something to him. This is why Itachi invaded konoha, to protect sasuke from danzo by forcing him to leave.

This is what Obito said:

"He tried everything he could to convince the others that reconciliation with the uchiha was the answer". Which means he was rather negotiating the konoha elders to let him do a reconciliation with the uchiha, meaning again that no negotion were made. He was planning to.
And Even if negotiations did happen, I think it would have been only one-sided, mainly because of Danzo, he wanted the coup to happen no matter what, he even said so himself.

Thanks for providing that scan. I guess I read a bad translation. :p

But even if they did occur, I agree that they would not have worked due to Danzo and Hiruzen's leniency. Though I do find it a little off that Hiruzen apparently never spoke to them and waited until he had to get permission from his colleagues, while most others act on their own accord, like Tsunade...she did what she wanted regardless of what the elders thought or not. I also find it off that the Uchiha never made their demands known, they just automatically thought a coup was the only answer to their dilemma, especially when it would entail so many risks. Both sides screwed up quite alot here. But @underlined, I don't recall Danzo saying that. I don't like him but I don't remember any panel of his stating this, he just wanted to stop them through extreme means, unlike Hiruzen.

Sasuke may not of knew it but he his life was potentially at risk every day. Hiruzen protected him - Itachi's wishes of course. When the news got out that Hiruzen was killed, Itachi came back, making it clear to Danzo and the other elders that if they hurt Sasuke, they're all ****ed. Of course he needed another excuse to actually go there, this being Naruto and the Kyuubi.

He wanted to makes sure that Danzo wouldn't hurt Sasuke. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Obviously it was Hiruzen who off-paneled Itachi. Itachi was soloing too many people, it was ruining Rikuzen's plan for the world. People just used Ninja Aids as an excuse. BELIEVE IN THE HYPE! (Hiruzen 5 Leggo)

yet itachi tortured sasuke horrifically and beat him into a coma.and no the threat was if sasuke dies then itachi betrays konoha and sells secrets to their enemies
. He came to Konoha just to warn Danzo and others that he is still alive and dont even try to hurt his brother and if he did so then he will reveal all the secrets to the other nations..
which confirms itachi as a selfish evil villain. he came to konoha to brutally beat sasuke into a coma and drive him insane
. Itachi wasn't proud of what he did. He just wanted to protect the Uchiha clan's honor and protect innocent citizens in Konoha that had no part of the conflict, wh
no he didnt. innocent citizens got massacred by orochimaru whom itachi refused to kill meaning itachi wants to let thousands be killed by oro
Sasuke. He also stated that he wanted to do things for Sasuke through his death, meaning he wanted him to become stronger, but also to feel a sense of relief by killing the man who ruined his life.
and yet the opposite would have happened. sasuke would continue to hate and look for people to kill. sauske being stronger's not a good thing
Well imo, he was a decent bro considering that Sasuke would have been dead long ago if it weren't for him.
itachi brutally and horrifically tortured and beat sasuke into a coma and poisoned his mind with evil.
Also, Sasuke wouldn't be anywhere near as powerful as he is now without Itachi.
THATS A GOOD THING. i dont need a superpowred uchiha trying to kil everyone
As a son, he was decent too. He did what his father asked him to do and seemed pretty respectful.
he murdered fugaku in cold blood
And it happened only twice in 7 years. At the end of the day, doing that redirected Sasuke's hate, instead of him hating the village
at the end of the day, doing that drove sauske insane, permanently ripped his sanity apart and his mind apart, and sent sasuke spiraling down into a pit of power hungry madness which resulted in him being receptive to obitos lectures.
and if obito never seduced sauske, pain would have.
Itachi was willing to allow the one he loved most to hate him and take out his anger by killing him in the end
which is brutal and evil.
he tortured sasuke to madness and poisoned him into a painful life of revenge and rhen forced his own brother to kill him which permanently destroyed sasukes last shred of sanity.
he actually is guilty of destroying someones mind.
Also, he never beat Sasuke near to death. Naruto gave Sasuke a worse beating at the Valley of the End fight.
sasuke had broken bones, was in a mentally shattered coma, and his breathing was nearly stopped.
itachi vs sauske was the worst beating in the series so far.
nnocent people? Not so much. B
his 7 year old brothers not innocent? interesting
