I'm not "proud" of being white or bisexual, they are just characteristics of my physiology. In this era, such things as pride festivals are counterintuitive, because they make said groups "stick out" and so don't help the integration process. The final crucial step for LGBT et al. is to be treated no differently from their counterparts.

So if you are going to take British empire as "white pride" then I suppose you are also going to take responsibility of 10 million deaths during White Man made famine( literally) in Bengal in 1770 and 4 million deaths by hunger again in 1943 - again because the British government didn't care for dark skinned Bengalies.

And the British left from the same door they came in - our influence on your way of life was ephemeral, whereas the same cannot be said for those other conquerors of your land, the Muslims.

As for something the British can take pride in, I think there is much to be said, to name one, there are very few other peoples who rival us for per capita contributions to science. In fact I think the Germans and the Ashkenazi Jews are the only serious competitors we have for the title of the most productive people in history.

The great Khan did those things when he was fighting or at war with those people. Just like you Mongols too have more reasons to be proud of him - his policies as a ruler brought some good reforms to his own people.

By contrast, the famine of 18nth century was not result of a war or natural calamity but economic policy of the British powers and callous attitude towards the natives whose lives meant little to them.

I think British made him greater than he was, by turning him in to a singular face for Indian freedom fighters- they used him to push back hardliners who were demanding more civil rights and then full freedom much earlier before him, while Gandhi was quite a loyalist to British Raj for a long time. Some people get classed as great because of their circumstances. But that's another argument and I'm just not one of the Gandhi fans.

Yea - most of us cannot make up their mind about Britain- they ruined us economically but it's not like the drain started with them and they came as a third party in already ongoing two way struggle. Hard to say how it would have gone otherwise from cultural POV. We probably needed a change in status quo to be able to move forward again, maybe not - still we paid too high price and installments are yet ongoing.

Thing is, what exactly is it that you're proud of? Most races when they say they are proud its referencing their culture and roots. food, music, traditions etc. White americans have a lot of shameful roots not a very easily recognizable/consistent culture (unless you're referencing pre-american ancestry). I'm white and I am so proud of my skin colour. My white skin enables me to handle colder climates better and entitles me to more money at work because everyone knows that white money is better than black money due to being more legitimate. It also allows me to be treated better with the cops because everyone knows that white represents happiness and life and black represents death, which is why a lot of people where white at weddings and black attire at funerals. Lastly, and most importantly, my white skin is more prone to getting skin cancer which incentivises me to stay away from the 3rd world shitholes which make up the bulk of the tropical/warmer areas of the world and stay in the richer Scandinavian countries. So yes, my white skin is something I'm very proud of. White pride FTW!
