I don't know why people don't like bad words, it's not like I've never heard 5-10 year olds having conversations using b^tch f^ck etc.. like a teenager or adult would. So why is it frown upon ? Kids are going to learn it one way or another, it's just a matter of maybe even days.

One day I cussed (said f^ck) in front of my little brother in the car with my mom, cause somehow I poked myself with a tool my mom bought to fix the kitchen sink. Next week my brother started saying f^ck, f^g etc.. and I know for a fact I've only cussed once in front of him. It's only a matter of time before they learn, we already live in a world full of bad mouth idiots. No point in stopping it :|

What are your thoughts? I really want to know.

Wow I initially thought you were complaining about some user named profanity being banned :yeah: Been on the base too long...

I say they're empty words but society keeps dictating them as bad words

Cause for those kids here if their parent's saw those words by wrong, big problem might happen. just saying from point of view of a parent. (my right hand is my wife)

Exactly..
bcuz its better to say good words. lol
But if we don't say anything about it, eventually it's going to grow old and we'll stop. Just like cigarettes were illegal, and people thought they were "badass" then it became legal now cigarettes are just another "thing". Just like profanity is going to be another "thing" if we don't make it as bad as it seems.

Yeah, it's just expresses the way you feel in a more demanding manner.

Some people swear, some don't. But in public people should be respectful and not swear, especially around other people's kids.
But if we do swear. It's going to grow old becoming another "thing". People eventually won't give 2 shits in about 10 years.

Were human. A word is something we humans made, a word we made "frown upon". One day one word, might be frown upon (For example: Shrew) and it's going to be another one of those "words".

Kids will eventually hear those words anyways
Exactly. One way or another.
The world is a huge time bomb
Not to me, but people have different perspectives. If someone calls me a "b^tch". I'll just say something like "Oh yeah, a word that even kindergartners know. Good job in improving your vocabulary over time." Then he'll try to swing, and i'll just dodge and break his hand.

A lot of reasons:

The forum has kids around and such words are not considered family friendly by most societies. None of the standard forums unless rated 18+ allows that. Some may be lax in making you follow rules because they are still new/small and are trying to get more users and build a community but that's about it.

It's not that kids don't learn it. They learn a lot of things- including that not everything is allowed in public, in certain contexts or during the polite conversation.

At the forums we encourage polite and proper conversation. Even if you cannot respect someone's view you must be courteous at least. All of us owe that much to each other as civilized persons. Everyone needs to learn that to keep the forum a nice and neat place to hang out.

Besides, we have members from all kinds of backgrounds and ethnicity. What people find acceptable around the globe differs vastly. Good manners, that are universal are better set of rule to follow in such a case.

In general:

For many- Profanity is the crutch of the conversational cripple. After a certain level of education one should be able to string together a sentence without using cuss words.

It hurts sensibilities of a lot of people- just like racist words do. Their ears are a part of their body and they do not like the words which they deem as trash hurled at them.

You see- adults may use these words but most of them usually learn when to use it and when not to and how to keep it to a minimum. So the word is either ignored or laughed off. But many kids use it just because they think it is cool or just because of the shock value( depending upon the context). And in later stages find it hard to express themselves otherwise- because they never learnt it.

One, we want to keep our kids as pure as possible for as long as possible.

These words are all stemmed from insults, and add more "hit" to them.

You piece of poop vs. You piece of SHIT.

What sounds more offensive? These words historically have a bad meaning to them that won't go away instantly. The fact of the matter is, if you teach your kid these words, it's only a matter of time before they either use them in school, or think being a big-mouth is okay which ends in them either getting kicked out of school for the former or getting their ass beat for the latter.

My little cousins swear. Because they speak Arabic, their logic is "it doesn't count if it's in English" which is stupid.

If your kids can't honor the simple rules of etiquette, then how long will it take before their out there doing worse stuff? I mean yeah, kids swear on accident without knowing what it means but that's different than just LETTING them.

Times are definitely a-changing though. In about 15 years or so these words will have no effect or meaning.

isnt that a bit like saying kids are going to learn how to drive someday, why not let them do it now? You could say the same thing about drugs, alcohol and well you get the point.

I think its a matter of immaturity and irresponsibility, the lack of knowledge to understand what those words can mean.

Letting a kid do drugs or drive could hurt them and possibly other people.

But we humans make it frown upon. As you said once we are more mature, and are able to make a few sentences without using it, why not let other people enjoy the "fun" or "thrill of the moment" if once were older we'll be able to use it as some adults do now. I'm not the type to nonchalantly say a bad word just to seem more cool or menacing. I use it as a way for expressing pain or surprise.
