Why is Naruto's surname not Namikaze?

In most cases children normally take on their father's surname, so why not naruto?

Minato didn't give him his name so people wouldn't target Naruto to take vengeance ( Minato killed very many people during the war, he basically solo'd it ).

Then I guess Naruto just kept it.

It's sad, because while Uzumakis still exist Minato's family name probably disappeared.

Correction. Uzumaki got exterminated because of their Sealing Techs. Also who is going to be scared of a Boy with no sealing techs? The Sealing techs made the Uzumaki feared across the land, but after destroying it nobody payed any mind to them anymore.
