Why is Naruto such a prick to Boruto?

He is always busy working and never spend time with his son (if he does it is a shadow clone). It seems a bit out of character. Naruto is someone that always would do something fun rather than work. I get that he is a responsible Hokage but no other Hokage worked so much it seems to me. He is also not scarred by war since he was always the same upbeat person even after the things that happened to him.

The Naruto I know would always take care of his friends and family. The Naruto I know would appreciate his family when he got it. It makes zero sense that he is so distant.

I don't want to turn the topic into "how it should have been" but to me it would make more sense if Naruto acted more like Minato, albeit somewhat goofier. Boruto is not a perfect image of young Naruto in attitude but a talented brat who thinks the world of his father. Boruto should be more entitled and think he is better than anyone else. It might be a more boring follow up story but it would make more sense. Because Boruto has everything. A loving family, a dad who is world famous, hokage and the most powerful shinobi in the world. His family is respected and probably loaded with money. Performing petty pranks would be beneath him

Boruto has some qualities that Naruto doesn't argubly agree with, I-E - Being lazy, not trusting in team work, etc.

Although on another hand, all Boruto wants (which mind you has nothing to do with shinobi or ninja) is for his father to be there for him and his family on important days, such as Himawari's birthday. Hell, Naruto even missed his (given in the family pictures) and he never belittled Naruto for it. He just wanted to make sure that his sister didn't have to feel the same way he did, and bam. Naruto messed up again.

But, I have to be objective and look at it on both sides. Naruto's overworking himself, and not dodging his family because he wants to, he feels obligated to do everything alone. Which is ironic considering he keeps preaching to Boruto to not only work hard, but to rely on his team mates for help. Like for instance when Shikamaru came in the Office and saw that Naruto collapsed on the ground, he offered to finish up for him so that he could go home early, and Naruto shot him down.

While I agree that Boruto establishes bratty behaviors (hell his future self even calls his past self a brat in the reflection piece in Chapter 1 of the Manga), at the end of the day Boruto just wants his father to be a father. Whilst Naruto just wants to be a Hokage everyone is proud of, including his family.

I thought the Movie did great at explaining their conflicts. But you would be surprised at how many people skip over little details and just speak their mouth without really understanding every little thing. Like how Naruto remanded Boruto's headband in the Chunin Exam.

Do I think Naruto went a little overboard, yes. Do I think he was wrong? Nope. Instead most people just call out Naruto for being a hypocrite since he was using the Kyuubi's chakra in the Exams, yet, forget that Naruto had to learn how to use the Kyuubi's chakra via Jiraiya before he could even ask for it. Still at the end of the day Boruto isn't a Jinchuriki, and Naruto didn't get the option to choose. So he can't really raise a bunch of lazy-asshats who don't train and mock his nindo.

Plus Boruto being highly skilled must've set barriers too considering not only does he disagree with everything 'Naruto', he doesn't need to personally agree with his Jesus-cribed teaching because he does everything Naruto does with half of the work, or none at all.

But being Hokage is an extremely important job. And he's not like fugaku at all. Naruto doesn't willingly neglect Boruto, I doubt he fully realized how it was affecting Boruto until he starting acting up over it.

I have a hard time defending this point of view :elmo:

Like if I was in Boruto's position, I too would be angry if my father, who could make hundreds of clones to pick up old ladies, study a the library, go grocery shopping :lol, etc. Yet at the same time, he can't even spend 5 minutes on his 'real' family....

I don't know how people don't sympathize with his anger. Some of the words he said? Yeah, he said some harsh things, but that's because he don't give a F. Some characters need to be put in their place when they be acting stupid.

Not just talking about this father self insert from Kishi, but just in general. We need more raw anger.

Outside that, Naruto's clone is the thing that messed up the party in the first place. So it's just as stupid as the forced drama.
