I do kinda agree with your original point. I haven't seen any Madara Fan calling out a character for using "borrowed power" so far. But if they did it'd be beyond hypocritical.

Madara grew up in war.
Surpassed propaganda.
Tried to make peace with people who killed not only his siblings. Perharps even his grandfather and other ancestrals.
Spent more than a 50 years in that cave thinking about humanity issues. Not whining about friendship.

He is a self made man.
Not a boy who got caught up in something much bigger than his friendship trauma.

I have always found it hypocritical that fanboys (you know who I am talking about) started the whole external powers shit, when you have a clan whose only relevant in power-scale because of genetic lottery aka magic eyes.

Well, the only god tier character without any handouts is Gai.

Kaguya = chakra fruit
Hagoromo = Mommy's chakra.
Sasuke = too long to list
Naruto = Kurama (altough he did had to tame him)

Now, the thing is, you don't get to this tier without "handouts", like it or not. In Madara's defense, he was already "someone" by the point he had to take his brother's eyes.

The problem is that you need to define what a handout is. Is taking power for oneself a handout? Madara taking Senju DNA in battle, the tailed beasts in battle, and pretty much everything he had (Except EMS) in battle, is that a handout? No, it's merit. The handout poster child would be Sasuke: Itachi's eyes, Orochimaru's curse mark, Rinnesharingan from Hagoromo ... pretty much all the powerups he had along the series came from external sources and freely given. Those are handouts.

I am not afraid to call out those Madara fans. Heck, while Naruto himself has gotten overpowered over the years, at least he trained for some of those OP skills (esp. Sennin Mode).
