Why is Kurenai Yuhi a Jonin?

is pretty good at taijutsu she was even able to block itachi's kick.And how do you know if she has awful stamina.
And what the purpose of that statement about flaping you arms.It makes no sense there is no possible way for you to fly no matter how you much you try.
But if kurena did train hard there is a good possibility that she could become good at it.

My point with arm flapping was just because you train to achieve something your training aided in the reason you achieved but it not the sole reason and you still may not achieve it just because you trained hard. So to answer the question of why is she a jonin with because she trained is not an acceptable answer. An acceptable answers offers skills necessary to call oneself a jonin
The databook gave her a 2 in stamina. That's how I know she has awful stamina.
Allow me to explain what I mean. Taijutsu specialist are either very strong, very fast, or are able to tank. If she tried to fight a taijutsu specialist it'd be a very short fight. She wouldn't have the stamina to make it anyway. Against a normal taijutsu user they are likely to outpower her with a 2 in the databook for strength as i stated in my op and they are likely to outlast her. Which means everything relies on her being able to catch them in genjutsu and finish them. And them being unable to break her genjutsu. Because she needs that one aspect. She's more fitting to be a special jonin.

Most jounin dream of becoming like Kakashi. Kakashi isn't a normal jounin, Darui isn't a normal jounin, neither is Gai.

If we were to only base Kurenai on her one fight with Itachi that's not really fair in the slightest. I mean Itachi is dead and fighting a Sage right now, that's not an ordinary shinobi.

Here's how I see it there's a few tiers of Jounin.

Fodder jounin-they're eliete in the sense they can beat fodder chuunin, special jounin etc and they have skills enough balanced to be considered elite. These consist of nameless jounin all throughout.

Regular Jounin-I'll put Kurenai, Asuma, Darui, Kankuro, and Temari in here They're strong and we get to see it more often and they can beat most people and deal within a team against Akatsuki members but would get merked individually.

Pseudo-Kage badasses-Kakashi, Darui, Gai, KB. I consider KB a jounin because he had students and he's too much of a beast not to be one. These are people who could be Kage if they wanted (their village wanted) These guys could toe to toe with some Akatsuki members (as seen by all the mentioned)

What you guys don't understand is that just because we don't see much of Kurenai doesn't mean she's weak or anything. Using her fight with Itachi as our only grounds knowledge on her isn't fair even if we don't see much else of her. She's a jounin, if she wasn't pregnant for all of Shippuden we'd see her do more, if the first series had important for her we would've seen her but we didn't so we can't really speak much of her. I say let it go and just trust that she's probably the best genjutsu user under the Mizukage and Uchihas

Honestly my thoughts were just drifting around the Naruto Universe and when they got to Kurenai I realized she has never shown us (at least canonically) why she is a Jonin. The only battle I've seen here in was against Itachi and Kisame and Itachi owned her. With her being a Genjutsu specialist I atleast would have expected some challenge from her. When i think of Jonin I think of ninja like Kakashi, Gai, Darui, Kankuro, Temari, etc.
But people like Asuma and Kurenai seem so much weaker.
So I decided to go look at the Naruto Wiki for Kurenai. I was still quite unimpressed. In a filler arc she and Asuma were beat into unconsciousness and had to be rushed to a Konoha hospital.
In the arc that starred her. She still didn't seem particularly powerful. I actually remember watching it and was not very impressed.
When looks at her stats. I would have assumed being a Genjutsu specialist she would have had a 5 in intelligence but she only has a 4. Somehow she got a 4 in Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. But we've never seen this. And even still A 4 in taijutsu is not particularly good when strength and stamina are both 2s. According to her databook entry her speed is tier 4. And her 5 in genjutsu is not very helpful when someone more powerful comes along (which begs the question of if 5 is a max why is she a 5).
So what do you guys think?
Is she really deserving of that Jonin title. It seems like Kishi started of good but after the whole Itachi incident she was no longer relevant as a shinobi.

She's probably my favourite character and I understand what you mean. Its a shame, she's a very unique character. Getting owned by itachi - not suprising. Her genjutsu would be useless - he would simply see through it and flip it back on her which is exactly what she did. That 4/5 intelligence part I agree with you - apparently your suppose to be very intelligent to be able to use genjutsu and her genjutsu skill is suppose to be on par with itachi. Then again, she did show some stupidity in her fight against itachi - using a genjutsu on him and completely forgetting about the sharingans abilities to see through and reverse genjutsu was very careless.

4/4/5 stats aren't bad - its very well rounded. Although, I would have expected higher from a jonin. I mean look at neji - he specializes in taijutsu and has a 4 in ninjutsu. For someone like kurenai who specializes in genjutsu, I would have expected her to have a 5 in ninjutsu - Isnt genjutsu just a special form of ninjutsu? The 4 in taijutsu - meh. She is a genjutsu user and she probably likes to keep her distance. 4/5 is better than orochimaru's 3.5/5 though...

The 2's for stamina and strength I dont understand. Shikamaru had 2's for both those stats in the 2nd databook.

Kishi proably just neglected her which sucks. So unique and so much potential. I mean imagine a full on genjutsu fight between her and itachi. She would have lost but that would have been so awesome. And I do think she deserves the rank of jonin...4/4/5 stats are worthy of the rank imo. If she has 2/2/5 or something like that then I'd agree with you.

Kurenai always "caught my eye"..she is indeed mysterious and unique. She's like the female version of Tobirama Senju to me...in the sense of being a mystery that is.

P.S. What about her child? Will the bastard play a part in the series? It would HAVE to right..since Asuma talked to Shika about being the knight that protected the king..or something like that? It was a significant part..to me at least.

Genma is probably stronger than her.

Genma was guard to the fourth Hokage so your probably right. Kurenai is a jounin she earned her stripes and even Itachi complimented her during the battle but hell he's Itachi, the only person to sense Madara and who Madara wouldn't even teach all his secrets to. So Kurenai is a good ninja and Asuma was strong as hell. Kakashi got own by Itachi and two different occasions and Naruto and Sasuke had to help him against Zabuzza and nobody talks about him being weak. Reason being that he's not and neither is she. Doesn't matter what genjutsu you try to use on an Uchiha it is pointless.
