Why is Kurenai Yuhi a Jonin?

Honestly my thoughts were just drifting around the Naruto Universe and when they got to Kurenai I realized she has never shown us (at least canonically) why she is a Jonin. The only battle I've seen here in was against Itachi and Kisame and Itachi owned her. With her being a Genjutsu specialist I atleast would have expected some challenge from her. When i think of Jonin I think of ninja like Kakashi, Gai, Darui, Kankuro, Temari, etc.
But people like Asuma and Kurenai seem so much weaker.
So I decided to go look at the Naruto Wiki for Kurenai. I was still quite unimpressed. In a filler arc she and Asuma were beat into unconsciousness and had to be rushed to a Konoha hospital.
In the arc that starred her. She still didn't seem particularly powerful. I actually remember watching it and was not very impressed.
When looks at her stats. I would have assumed being a Genjutsu specialist she would have had a 5 in intelligence but she only has a 4. Somehow she got a 4 in Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. But we've never seen this. And even still A 4 in taijutsu is not particularly good when strength and stamina are both 2s. According to her databook entry her speed is tier 4. And her 5 in genjutsu is not very helpful when someone more powerful comes along (which begs the question of if 5 is a max why is she a 5).
So what do you guys think?
Is she really deserving of that Jonin title. It seems like Kishi started of good but after the whole Itachi incident she was no longer relevant as a shinobi.

Because according to Kishimoto in the 3rd databook, Kurenai is as good at Genjutsu as Itachi is. Itachi simply had a Sharingan Genjutsu Reversal HAX technique.

I am agreeing with you... and now she isnt even an active shinobi in the war due to her being knocked up. I think Kishi just gave up on the wench...

Actually i dont see why she still isnt a special jonin
She went from special jonin to jonin at the start of the show

The reason i think she should still be a special jonin is because they specialize in 1 major thing, like Kurenai which seems to only be genjutsu

Jonins are all around versatile

And her stats show she is versatile. I think some of you are forgetting she's only been shown in one fight, and a short one at that.

So if I train to try flap my arms like a bird flaps its wings should I be able to fly? She doesn't seem to actually have the skill. Taijutsu is worthless for her with awful stamina and strength. Which is a shame because she isn't slow. She's also not on mastermind level intelligence she's just pretty average. I would call her a special jonin at best

I'm not sure why she is a jonin, but she does have a good genjutsu I know its not canon but the filler episodes I think towards the end of the 1st series. She fights with another genjutsu user(which she had an awesome genjutsu too btw) it shows her use more of her abilities a bit more still though I really don't know if she deserves to be a jonin or not to be honest.

is pretty good at taijutsu she was even able to block itachi's kick.And how do you know if she has awful stamina.
And what the purpose of that statement about flaping you arms.It makes no sense there is no possible way for you to fly no matter how you much you try.
But if kurena did train hard there is a good possibility that she could become good at it.
