Why is Itachi so liked by fans?

he's a walking plot device,that's why i dislike him and all the uchiha in general.
if you go against him you're doomed to fail.
such characters doesn't intrigue me at all.

Because of his character..he's just too cool and calm, oh and because he's smart. Yes he failed in some things that he had to do but you see everyone likes him because basically he was the bad guy who turned good. only people we KNOW he killed was the uchiha clan anyone else off screen can't count because we don't know if he really did, we can't say how much info itachi gave on akatsuki but i assume it was fair enough for them to get by they didn't know itachi was a spy it'd be weird for all this info to come out of no where so he gave small bits. and

But Itachi did kill more people for Akatsuki, saying otherwise is just burying your head in the sand. I could say that the only people Kakashi has killed are the ones depicted in the series, which was... Haku and Rin, I recall.

Jiraiya knew about Akatsuki's existence, and he knew they were after the Bijuu, and before he died he learned that the "Leader" was in Amegakure... although if it was Itachi, why didn't he tell him that Tobi was the leader? Why didn't he give him information about Pein?

Tobi's lying. It was Danzo's idea to spare Sasuke's life, while Tobi told Sasuke that sparring Sasuke's life wasn't part of the plan. Itachi also originally went to Konoha on orders to capture Gaara, but Gaara left before Itachi got there. If he were there just for that, then he could had made his presence known and left, but decided to try to capture Naruto while he was there. Also, Danzo could had killed Sasuke whenever he wanted, and with Koto Amatsukami he could had got Itachi to do it himself. Itachi's existence also didn't stop Danzo from trying to kill Sasuke when he allied with Orochimaru.

I would like to remind people on this thread that Jiraiya did not get info from Itachi. In their encounter, Jiraiya still thought Itachi was simply a mass murderer. He never had any knowledge of his plans, or his innocence.

The fact that he was a known criminal was a large hindrance for him.

They fought evenly twice, Kakashi just mistakenly believed that the Sharingan would protect him from Tsukiyomi and had a staring contest with him despite his own advice.

I can see the jerk with a good heart angle going for him, it's why characters like Dr. House are popular.

In pt.1, Hiruzen was the closest we had to someone that was all powerful, except for the "still looking good" part, lol.

Another reason is in the fan fiction department: There are fans that like to ship him with Sasuke (yuck).

I think that if living Itachi/Edo Itachi was still around, he and Sasuke would be probably the strongest allies that Naruto (outside of the fox) would have.

It's true he didn't told anyone about the "Masked Man".
The second one is also true.
So is the third.
Itachi wasn't really interested in Akatsuki's doings.
He did, when he joined Akatsuki he told them not to touch the Hidden Leaf, Nagato attacked the village after his death.
He didn't killed any good guy as someone already told. In the whole series, we know that he and Kisame tried to capture only Naruto and Roushi, although it's unknown who captured Fuu and Han. When they went after Naruto, Itachi's real motives was to see what's happening with the village and... his little brother. When they went after Roushi, he just watched as Kisame defeated the 4-tails Jinchuriki.

Overall: Itachi is one of the best doujutsu users in the manga, and he is cool, calm, collected, smart, and a badass.

This is my understanding of Itachi:

Design: All black. Black outfit, black hair, black nail-polish, even probably had mascara on since his eyelashes were so thick. He was a pretty boy, that was his only real defining trait besides his Sharingan.

Personality: Calm, emotionless, secretive, distrusting, sympathetic, didn't talk a lot, "ends justify the means" mentality.

Story: He knew about "The Masked Man" attacking Konoha and framing the Uchiha. He could had told, cleared the Uchihas' name and united the village against Akatsuki long before this war ever happened... did he? No, he didn't tell a soul, and he chose to get "The Masked Man" to help him murder his family and his lover.

Of all the children in the Uchiha, he spared only his brother... but in doing so, mercilessly tortured him physically and mentally to force the Uchiha's curse of hatred onto him so he'd get stronger, making him sever his bonds and any semblance of a happy life, try to kill his friends, and become an enemy of Konoha all out of Itachi's selfishness... then was going to brainwash him into a good guy so he'd return to Konoha as if nothing happened and probably get killed by Akatsuki.

To make things worse, in 10 years before he died he:

Never told anyone about "The Masked Man."
Never told anyone about Akatsuki's members.
Never told anyone about Akatsuki's plans.
Never tried to stop or hinder Akatsuki.
Never tried to help Konoha.
Killed people and Jinchuuriki for Akatsuki.

Abilities: Highly ambiguous and fueled by plot and hyperboles.

I love you.

Like, literally this is everything I think about the character said in exactly the way I would say it. High powers are SO ambiguous that Kishimoto has barely given them limits! Seriously, all the rep.
