Manga series names has to relate to the series does it not. Well i don't get bleach, so do you ?.they are OTHER manga like hunter x hunter, Claymore, gantz and other manga that their name are obviously related. Well i don't read the manga but i know a little of the story. Watch some of its movies. But i dont see why it is called bleach. So can a die hard fan tell me the reason why the manga called bleach.

Its because of the main character - Kurosaki Ichigo, translating roughly as "black one", and hes inner hallow who is basically the exact opposite of him, including the colour. As a bleached version of him... so to speak.

Thats my personal interpretation :D. Only Kubo knows why exactly.

Edit: Nvm i actually found Kubo's answer:

"Tite Kubo, the creator of bleach, gave three reasons to calling it that.
One, as the soul reapers cleanse souls, it's like they are "bleaching" their souls. Like how bleaching in a clothes sense means to remove stains and blemishes, the shinigami remove sin and corruption from the souls.
Two, he wanted to name the anime black, but then decided it should be Bleach which suggests the color white, in that case would make one think about the color black.
Three, "Bleach" was the name of his favorite Nirvana album."

No particular reason, the creator just liked the name...

Bleach usually burns and purifies something right? maybe because the soul reapers are purifying/destroying souls.

Idk I'm just making stuff up xd
+ this, is the only logical explenation I can think of... when I started waching/reading the series, I thought that Ichigo was called Bleach (have seen stranger names than that in anime), or it would be a codename he would aquire in the progress of the storyline...

Was it not because Ichigo bleached his hair? O~O
But then again, 'ichigo' means strawberry in Japanese...

EDIT: [ ] The series was originally meant to be named "Black" due to the color of the Soul Reapers' clothes, but Kubo thought the title was too generic. He later tried the name of "White," but came to like "Bleach" more for its association with the color white and that he did not find it too obvious.

There's a rumor that when Kubo initially drew sketches for Ichigo he had dark hair similar to Kaien. Later on he decided to change his hair color to orange.

It's rumored that he titled the manga on a whim because he "bleached" Ichigo's hair.

^^ Mhhm, I read this as well. When Kubo drew his first character (Rukia) he decided that she didn't seem like a lead character, so he created Ichigo as the protagonist. In Kubo's initial sketches of Ichigo, he was drawn with black hair, glasses, and and 'kind eyes'; this was later changed to orange hair, no glasses, and a trademark scowl in order to contrast his character with Rukia's.

Because Shinigami cleanse and purify souls, like how they cleanse the Hollows to enable them to go to Soul Society. It is like bleaching something and hence, it's named as Bleach.
