Depends on the criteria. It wasn't without it's flaws, but, for the most part it was engaging. Good art; a large number interesting characters and unforgettable, almost everyone finds someone to identify with (the reason of so many fanboys competing for more footage for their favourite), which was handled reasonably well for a manga, ongoing for 15 years. If we take in consideration the weekly continuity and entertainment value in long terms- Naruto released maximum chapters per year for 15 years.

If you are looking for similar type, you can try FullMetal Alchemist. It's shorter but a quite good manga. You may like it better even.

They're over emphasizing Ohniki's viewpoints and not focusing on Mituski. The current arc started with great potential but they are dragging it out and making It boring. It can be salvaged with a crazy climax but the manga outshines it by far right now.
