We like them cause KISHI focuses on them.
Why would KISHI want me to like a fodder rather than a main character like OBITO, Madara, Naruto etc
So ya...just wanted to point out that KISHI focuses on them and we like them more for that reason

Want to overstress the word KISHI anymore? Kishimoto is just the biggest fanboy of all. If he decides he wants to turn his manga into a powerhouse dragonball Z rip-off then that's up to him but i'm not having him tell me which characters I should like and dislike.

The only solution is to have more OP characters for those characters to fight.

That sounds fine to me. Bit of variation.

It is not the whole NB; but there are people who like a character because of he(there is almost no "she" in that department) is strong, even at boring levels...Do not forget "my favorite> your favorite" threads and posts, they were annoying as hell; some people's top 10 strong characters list and favorites list are the same...Of course people can like what they want, but i do not understand how a person can relate to a character because of power levels; or find him/her interesting...
People might not want to fave a character which might considered "fodder", they are f**kin ninjas, not everyone has to be power houses...My favorites are Lee, Gaara, Neji, Kakashi, Tsunade, J-man, Gai...And my favorite Uchiha is Shisu(He made sacrifaces too, but he did not show "op haxx omg" techs)...I like them for different reasons other than power...And i hate deus ex machines or obnoxious techs like Susanoo, seriously that thing is a party killer, if you have it you do not have to dodge or shield attacks it with slightest effort, just turn it on and walk around and do not give a f**k...

Thought you liked Kabuto? Anyways, I agree. However my favorite characters are Rock Lee, Gaara, Guy, Kakashi, Shikamaru and Naruto - none of which other than Naruto are too OP, but I wish lesser known and discussed characters were talked about more.

Aw do you watch the show for the pretty lights

I don't watch the show what a characters motives and principles are and how they develop don't inspire me in any way how the plot has twists and turns I give kishi credit but if something like naruto turning out to be a bad guy I couldnt care for

Most people like Itachi because he is Powerful AND because his character is probably the most emotional one, which struck a chord with nearly everyone. What he has endured should bring you to like him by itself lol.

always been Shikamaru for me, the guy is too damn smart and holds up so well even when he is ridiculously overpowered by the opponent!

just thought i'd put this out, but Danzo was so under-rated it made me want to cry, and his whole shady personality thing was awesome!

Itachi is the single most developed character in the manga imo.

Which is why he's a secondary character and yet has defeated more main villains than Naruto or Sasuke.

My favourites are Suigetsu and Sai and they aren't even close to being OP. I've liked them ever since their introduction and always will.

And I totally agree MS Sasuke is super boring to watch. OP characters are boring in general but that's just my opinion.

That is totally fine, I mean Itachi is a character Kishi writes purposely to be perfect in every way but liking Itachi for more than strength seems pretty rare on this forum.

I know I will sound like a jerk, but seriously man, to write something like this, what the hell have you been reading?

Kishimoto doesn't write Itachi as an icon of perfection? Um... is that why he's never shown weakness ever, is given perfect scores in the databook and has never actually been defeated by anyone, just himself doing a 'valiant sacrifice' and now even chapters on from his second death Kishi is still praising him from the grave and won't let him go.

Kishi praises Itachi more than any fanboy.

It had so much depth and he was written so well that the manga MADE you genuinely dislike him. That's good writing.

Not really....all a bit too 'overly heroic' and far-fetched to have me buy it. I thought it was a bad plot reveal, plus Itachi was Hiruzen & Danzo's bitch :')

Itachi was never defeated actually, but isn't the core of your point that we shouldn't consider powers but personalities?

And that Itachi and Minato are boring character because all there is to them is sheer perfection in intent and results?

Well...

Itachi slaughtered is whole family. Itachi tortured mentally his brother for years in order to control how is brother reacts to the extermination of all his family, how sick is that? Whenever his brother tried to diverge from the path he has set for him, he either beat the crap out of him for it, or try to censor the truth, or try to brainwash him. He even set some post-mortem traps to make sure that Sasuke sees, hears, thinks only what Itachi decided he should. The extreme sickness, arrogance and unfairness of this treatment is something Itachi himself admitted.

True, he acted thinking of peace, of his brother's well being, of his clan name* (*= incidentally, was it right to still root for the Uchiha and for their good name after they were planning a civil war? Well Itachi thinks so) but he still did horrible things and treated everyone else like a tool.

Itachi is such a great character because he has dark sides and downfalls while being ultimately moved by good reasons.

People praise what he did, even after his death. Yes they do. You are missing one of the core points of the story. The ninja world is an harsh, dark world, and the vast majority of the "good" characters in it still think that for political and military stability it is pretty much worth it to commit a bloodbath. In the ninja world Itachi is a champion... but the rules of the ninja world are themselves the matter of debate. Pretty much everyone bar a few (Naruto, pre-incident Obito, Kakashi, maybe Hashirama only a little...) share the same values that led Itachi to commit the crime he did for a "greater good".

Itachi is not a knight in the shining armor, and is hard to consider him a hero, he himself doesn't view himself as such.

Which brings me into discussing Minato also. Yes, Minato is smart, kind, funny, skilled, loving and caring. Minato is also the one who threw his life away to avoid the village losing the Nine-Tails. Remember? Kushina could have killed herself with the Nine-Tails, but that would have caused the beast to later revive and go on rampage, while being not in Konoha's control anymore. So what does he do? He kills himself. In the process he seals the demon into his just born little son. All for the sake of the village's military might. No wonders that this move was heavily criticized by both Kushina and Naruto and left the Konoha's heads wondering why in the hell he did it, for years. Once again, by the manga's moral code, Minato did good. But he is not above controversy, just like Itachi.

Your core argumentation - that there is nothing to like or discuss about these characters because they are clean-cut masses of adamantine perfection - doesn't hold true.
