Why do the characters in Naruto run with their hands behind them? It seems a bit strange.
The reason why they have their arms loosely behind them is because they run so fast it would be disturbing or rather hard to swing your arms and this way they are more aerodynamic.. Just my short opinion and no idea if this has any truth to it but it looks to me that they are running really...really fast. Since they travel very long distances by just running it makes sense.

Same goes for people when they skydive. To add more speed to the fall they form them selfs to a, let's say a "spear". And they move their hands to their sides. So I guess this works aswell to this fast running theory :p

And yes, this is the wrong section to post this. And since you're a new member I'll help you to post to the right places in future.
Under every section, there is this description of what the section holds. Try to read every description to find the right place for your post.

Good luck and have fun at NB ^^

Your correct in everything but aerodynamics. If you pay attention to marathon runners they never move their arms. its a way to conserve energy by not constricting/using your upperbody muscles. Plus they're running so fast and leaning forward so much that it is also a counter balance. well i guess a little bit for aerodynamics but not much

Running like that that does allow you to move faster, but only in one direction. But it also puts a lot of strain on the bodies. Thats why track runners do it as they are approaching the finish line to gain a extra bit of speed. But when maneuvering, it will not allow for such movement.

Yeah agreed kastaway but this thread is pointless tbf =/
Thank you for your constructive comment.
It's supposed to be in the Questions section but non the less, it's a question that needs answering.

Yes, that's true.
Well it was the first thing that came to my head and since it's Naruto world we're talking about it makes no bigger importance but still, a good point.
But it sure makes it look they run faster. Though Maito Guy runs waving his arms :D

well to me its also about the ablitiy to counter an attack, if your arms are already behind you, it is possible to pull and throw a object in one motion with the added speed and power.
Yeah I suppose it works, why not :p

In Japanese history, most ninjas, and a few Samurai who also had ninja training. Ran with their arms behind them because it A) made them move faster (see aerodynamic stuff).
B) Allowed for their bodies to learn to support the forward weight of it.

Many of the Shinobi on Naruto run like that while on missions, or when speed is needed, other wise they run normally.
