Why do the Ninja in Naruto run with their arms behind their back? Wouldn't they lose balance and how would they gather speed? Also, of a real life person did that, they would look very strange.

If they run with their arms moving, it would be more physically draining since they have to run and move their arms at the same time. It seems to be more efficient running without arm swinging. Plus, it adds a "cool factor" as well.

But don't the arms create momentum to go faster? And if they fall, they'll fall on their faces.

Well yeah. But in NV, they seem to use chakra to enhance movement. If they can use chakra to walk on water, they likely use it to not fall on their faces while running. Even then, I wouldn't use real life logic to explain everything in a fictional story. Lol

I'd say aerodynamics, they can run faster like that hypothetically.
