Why do people treat all rasengan variants as the same jutsu?

People lately always criticize Naruto and rasengan by saying that Naruto only uses one jutsu all the time. They treat all variants as just plain rasengan (which is not very wise). Consider this:

If I shoot you with a water gun, is it the same as me shooting you with a shot gun because both of them are considered guns?

Let me explain how this scenario is similar to the case of rasengan.

Different rasengan variants have many different and deadly effects.

1. wind style rasenshuriken cuts on a cellular level (including doing nerve damage and causing paralysis) and causes an explosion. This is a long range jutsu.

2. Lava style rasenshuriken burns opponents to smithereens while likely still cutting them with the wind. This is long range. It was enough to cut the God tree!

3. Magnet style rasengan is capable of binding and sealing opponents. Short range.

4. Planetary rasengan uses multiple rasengans that move in a circular direction around a larger rasengan. The force of multiple rasengans applying pressure in different directions and in different places on a person's body can literally tear a person's body apart. Short range.

5. Senpou chou oodama rasengan serves as a nice and simple explosion attack. This is mid range.

6. Base rasengan concentrates chakara onto a spot on a person's body and then literally grinds that spot. It then explodes and sends the person flying! This is short range.

7. Bijuudama rasenshuriken can destroy large areas or targets. Long range

8. Gudoudama rasenshurikens can even negate ninjutsu and erase things on contact beyond a molecular level!

Furthermore, rasengan can come in various sizes and quantities.

As you can see, the different variants, though being called rasengans, are actually very different jutsus!

They clearly come with different effects as the situation requires (cellular destruction, burning, sealing, etc...) and they even vary between ranges as the situation requires!

Therefore, rasengan doesn't deserve nearly as much bash as it gets, because it is actually a very versatile jutsu!

If you give me a crappy reason such as "it still uses the same shape", then you are just being petty and pathetic! A jutsu is not about its "originality" or "creativity". It is about the effect of the jutsu and its usefulness in various situations!

Yes shape does have an effect on an attack's range, but Naruto has plenty of other ways to compensate for this (truth seeking balls, bijuu bombs, chakara arms, frog kata style, tailed beast powers like the one Kokuo gave him, shadow clone jutsu, summoning jutsu, etc...).

Conclusion:

It is not wise to just dismiss all rasengans as the same! Remember, getting shot with a water gun (or a base rasengan) is not the same as getting shot with an AK-47 (or a lava style rasenshuriken) despite the fact that both of these things have the word "gun" (or "rasen") in them.

I think it's like a sequel.

Rasengan (Base) then it gets a sequel and so on.

I think this would make sense, considering that with water jutsu you would have different ways of channeling H20 at an opponent.

Fire jutsu would have different ways of channeling fire, sometimes different types and sizes of fireballs and the like.

At the end of the day, they're just variations of Rasengan. We wanna see Naruto do more than chuck chakra balls into people or make clones.

You have to understand that some people are simple minded and are easily overwhelmed..

They're all separate techniques, but at the end of the day, it's still a ball of chakra.

And at the end of the day both a bullet and a water projectile are still just small projectiles. That doesn't change the fact that they are still much different (unless you're saying that you'd be fine if your friends decided to shoot you with shot guns in place of water guns).

This post is the kind of crap I am talking about.

You can have 30 different flavors of Mayonnaise, would that make them 30 different condiments?

Actually yes, considering that the purpose of a condiment is to add flavor. Therefore, the flavor of the mayonnaise does matter. Therefore, if you work at a restaurant and a customer says "I only like strawberry mayonnaise", then it won't suffice to go get blueberry and then say "It is all still mayonnaise".

You will get fired that way.

You are misinterpreting what people mean when they treat the variations as one technique. People basically wanna see Naruto do something more than just a different type of Rasengan. It's like in every situation "Oh I have a Rasengan and Shadow Clone combo for this!", people wanna see a more diverse skillset from Naruto. Of course they are not all the same, people would just like to see more than another variation of Rasengan.

For example, instead of pummeling something with a Rasengan, why not a wall of wind? A column of lava? Bullets or blades of wind, things like that.

For the most part, I agree. Look at Kakashi's and Sasuke's Lightning techniques, they all draw from the same principles and are often variants of other jutsus. Saying a Rasengan is the same as the RasenShuriken is like saying Chidori is the same as Lightning Blade.

That is not an apt comparison. The way the Rasengan is changed, evolved, and morphed would be like adding mayonnaise into another recipe. Mayonnaise may be the base of coleslaw, for example, but coleslaw it is it's own separate entity from what makes it up. These are the very fundamentals of science 101.

More on topic, some of the readers of Naruto are incredibly simple minded and cannot grasp this basic concept. Rasengan, because of its pliability and the sheer number of combinations to it, is the perfect attack. With 1 jutsu, the user can do anything and is able to adapt to any situation. Regardless, Naruto is still the most versatile shinobi in the game.

Okay bro but you are just being over specific with the variants its still ransengan and half of those techs come from borrowed power anyway. All and all most of narutos moveset is rasengan and shadow clone but thats all he needed as well.

Bolded part:

Here is the thing about that: Lava rasenshuriken does in fact pummel with lava. Wind style rasenshuriken does use blades of wind (and more refined ones at that). The rasengan variants do very well do these things already.

People are just being petty about the name and shape of it.

Whether power is "borrowed" or not is irrelevant. If I kill you with a gun that I borrowed from a neighbor, it doesn't matter that it was borrowed. At the end of the day, you are still 6 feet deep.

Okay bro but what youre talking about was before naruto got 8 tailed beasts to add variety to his rasengan. Before rasengan only had wind or it could become bigger.

By this logic, so are Sasuke's. What is the relevance of it being borrowed anyway? All of Sasuke's current moveset is Susanoo and Amaterasu at any rate. Why make such shitty, pointless distinctions when they apply full circle? That's illogical.

Because basic logic such as this escape the simple-minded readers. Not to knock my boy Minato, but he's a bit of a spammer. As is Hashirama with Mokuton, as is Sasuke with Susanoo/Amaterasu, as is every single ninja in this manga. This is a fallacy argument used by those grasping at misdirection.

This is the shit I'm talking about. That couldn't possibly be farther from the truth. Naruto added Wind nature, created Senjutsu Rasengan, utilized his clone armies to multiply the destructiveness, made it throwable, created a miniature vortex, used satellite spots to augment the main impact site, created a miniature version with a large explosion radius, fired it all directions with chakra arms, the list goes on.

You have to literally not read to skip over all of this.
