Why do people even care about pairings?

I definitely wouldn't say that they get no development. Considering that we are talking about two side characters who aren't even from the same village, it's reasonable what they get.
Anyways, it's just a part of the way that we interpret the characters. While it's true that romance isn't a main focus of the series, it definitely is present. It's something that gets brought up when people want to imagine what these characters' lives are like outside of what is presented in canon itself. I love this series more for the character interactions than the action scenes, which is why I'd rather discuss shipping then get involved in a versus thread.
I want to say that it's just all in good fun, but then again there are people who take shipping way too seriously...
