Because people make marriage to be more than what it needs to be. They want a wedding, cake, flowers, music, the whole celebration and so push marriage off. Also marriage doesn't become an idea early on, since it requires more commitment instead of something you can walk away from more easily. Then some people just dislike the idea of being married for reasons.

Marriage is more of a business nowadays (men are on the losing side), so it's no wonder more and more opt to not get married.

OT: i would guess because of the way marriage is portrayed, most fall under the pressure and divorce is all thats left. add a kid to a divorce and everything becomes way more complicated legally and emotionally

A few reasons why people have one or more kids as single status and not married.
1. They don't use protection.

2. They use protection but it broke.

3. They see it as a way to exploit the system by claiming a child for tax refund.

4. Too afraid too get married in case something happens to their relationship in the future. So they choose too go ahead and have kids but agree to wait on getting married.
