i Think it was early shippuden or in part 1, but they said that "The 8th gates gives you the power, of that of a bijju" or something along the lines, it was cool to see gai beat-up madara and get some shine, but he wasn't suppose to be that strong, kishi was kind of contradicting himself

This. Kishi made a big mistake with Gai. Gai should be dead too. :/
