Madara was around when Tobimaru was around and probaly met him and knew he created Edo Tensei and used his Sharingan to view it. Itachi while being super smart, had never seen it being used, he was away from the village when Orochimaru used it on Hizuren and dead when Kabuto used it.

This. Ending the Edo and escaping it would be 2 different jutsus I imagine.

Plus Itachi had nothing left to offer story wise basically, if he did he entrusted it with Sasuke.

did he know that reversing the hand seals results in the stabilisation of edo? Itachi seemed like he knew of the jutsu, but not much about it. after all if he knew the thing about reversing the hand seals, he would probably know which those seals were in the first place.
