When main characters need to change or surpass their greatest challenges in a story, rebirth, in either a literal or symbolic way, is an elegant means in which the author can show the change from a promising character to something of great importance (larger than life in this case) and greater than they were before.

It's good writing. Also incoming powerups.

He probably thought it would make an impact , but frankly it didn't , almost no one believes both of them will die .

Couldn't have said better myself.

That is why Kishi should change his bluff to fact and just kill them off.

This way it would make an impact.

Making an impact is important, so therefore it justifies killing off Sasuke and Naruto.

I see two possibilities.

1. This all has to do with the series finale.

Kishimoto realized that Naruto was so much more powerful than Sasuke that there was no way that he could have the two face off without Naruto simply mopping the floor with Sasuke. Therefore, Kishimoto had to level the playing field somehow. By removing Kurama's chakra already inside Naruto, he essentially cut out all of the abilities that Naruto had to were specifically catered to defeating an Uchiha. For instance, Naruto's speed is back down to his normal level; Naruto doesn't have a protective chakra cloak that theoretically wouldn't be affected by Amaterasu (much like how Nagato and Gaara countered Amaterasu); Naruto lost the TBB, etc. This essentially resets Naruto and Sasuke to their levels prior to the War Arc, and makes up for the complete lack of development when it comes to Sasuke since he killed his brother.

2. This has something to do with unlocking their overall potential.

Somehow having the Yin chakra will make Naruto more powerful. Conversely, perhaps death is the final stage of awakening the Rinnegan. We do not yet know the details of how Madara was able to awaken the Rinnegan. We just know that sometime after his battle with Hashirama, he used Hashirama's DNA. However, every other Uchiha doujutsu requires some sort of mental anguish, and perhaps the Rinnegan requires the person to die.

U sir or whatnot make a lot of sense and are in lyn with my thoughts too so yehaaa.
I think there is a possibility too that Kishi did this for both of those reasons bcoz in realty Sasuke didnt lose anyting here he actually was given a justu just before he got stabbed wheather that was a once off justu or a permanent one I dont know, on the other hand if just say Naruto with his Kurama was a power lvl 6 he actually dropped some to a maybe 3 so he will have that dip to fill then another part to gain so if Madara is now say a 10, Sasuke was just b4 being stabbed a 5, then with a new power u he will ryse to maybe an 8 then Naruto will from the 3 he is ryte now will go to a 6 with just yin Kurama then coz of other factors(residual yang enrgy or inclusion of other bijuu chakra) he will gain to reach a final lvl of 8 equalling with Sasuke. Pliz these numbers are just a mathematical represantation to easily project my thoughts they are not something I wanna debate over but I stand behind them completly.
Madara: was a 7 then went to a 10 ryt now
Sasukr: 4.5-4.8 then 5 with Hashi justu predicted to rys to an 8 with Rinnegan or what ever power up he gets making him having have surpassed Madara in just Rinne n Sharingan powers.
Naruto:6(with Kyubi) then 3ish after extraction(really 0 but u shld consider the potential of a Naruto withought Kurama but just his own powers as Naruto but if he were combat able I wld say a 4) will get to 6 with yin kurama then bcoz of above said factors an 8.

What did you expect? It's not an american cartoon, it is a manga. A really wellbuilt one.
It does not really need to follow the rule that good guys never die and evil looses to good, thought it does not even have good and evil within, so what the hell are you asking again?
