Why did Indra pick Sasuke

Because whenever there's an Ashura reincarnation there has to be an Indra reincarnation. He chose Sasuke he's a genius, Uchiha and since Madara died shortly before Sasuke's birth he had to reincarnate into somebody so he chose Sasuke.

True but if Madara was alive then Indra can't move on. And knowing Itachi was already born and of age when kyubi attacked we understand why it couldn't be him. Also of it was Itachi then the powers of solo which are already to much for nv would be overwhelming. Naruto wouldn't last past solo stare let alone in combat.

The conversation was skipped but Indra picked Sasuke cause he would be a talented shinobi in his namesake and when he selects an Ashura incarnate at that same time the Indra Reincarnate would have to be chosen.

1-It happens at birth.

2-It can happen at any-point in the vessel's life and depends on their Ideology.

If it was Situation #2...Itachi wasn't suited because he was a closet pacifist and shunned the Uchiha curse of hatred.

Obito would've been a good choice...but then again, he never possessed double Mangekyu.

Sasuke had the right ideology and access to his full ability.

For the same reason Ashura picked Naruto, the corresponding reason it why Indra picked Sasuke. They are both soloers, both are geniuses and prodigies and both are similar in the paths the walked i.e. vengeful and rebellious path.
