You are not addressing my point. I am making very good money. I am spending almost ALL my time doing this.

I say this is the right the right way to live life.

I say this is far more important than devoting hours upon hours on political policy.

And this is where you have accepted slavery.

Why should a government have so much power that you have to devote yourself to studying all of its decisions?

The moment you accept that the government should have that much authority, you are saying that you need someone to lord over you and your life. Thus, you will be a slave in everything that you do.

As an epicurean, I only care about my enjoyment. Given this, give me a good reason to drop my work and indulge in politics.


Why would you even want to indulge in something that you are not highly informed about? Why?

I've never said that only the most informed should be allowed to use it. I said that the highly informed. If everyone became highly informed, then so be it.

This is why democracy 'fails.'

You accept that a government should be larger than what you can manage as a person. This always leads to an out of control system that eventually coalesces into an oligarchy that oppresses the population.

If you have to spend more than a few hours a week to keep track of what the government is doing - it's too damned big.

If it is passing laws that are longer than two pages, it's too damned big and has no business doing whatever it is doing.

If you allow a government to persist in such a state, you will end up as a slave. No exceptions. If you accept that the government needs to be that large - then you have been indoctrinated as a slave.

People ultimately fall for the lie of security being provided by government. They buy the argument of a central bank. They buy the argument of 'safety nets.' They buy the argument of 'consumer protection.'

Then they wonder why their economy, 50 years down the line, is in shambles and their industry/manufacturing base is on a mass exodus. They vote to increase minimum wage without understanding that the government created the problem in the first place, and increasing minimum wage will only further worsen the problem.

Democracy fails because people ultimately become complacent and prioritize delusions of security over dreams of freedom.

You are suggesting that we have a test administered by the Government that you must pass for voting?
As good as your intentions are, this will not cause people's intelligence to matter, but rather the contents and requirements of the test will be the determinant.

If all the 'dumbest' people did not vote we would be better off?
Not quite. If the requirements were effective and knocked off a quarter of the population, what would we see? A drop in representation for the most poorly educated parts of America. Now in their district, they just lost all representation, even if the lower uneducated half is the majority. Disparity in education levels and funding would rise beyond belief, because nobody else will be voting for their interests, and most representatives will be expected to prioritize their voters' interests. Even if some voters are 'dumb' or uneducated, I guarantee you that most of these people that actually take the effort to vote, understand what is good for them, generally.

Democracy is never going to be running at 100% efficiency. Humans of different ambitions don't operate that way with each other.
When Democratic-like governments fails, it will never be because of a faulty minority, but because of an oppressive majority.

This is an issue we'll have to work with until we are ready to tackle the current education problem

Sort of true, i mean the majority of people "can" be influenced and wrong, just take Nazigermany as an example.

It was welcomed by a democracy with open arms.

Governments can change forms. The history of American interventionism is removing one dictator and holding a vote for the population to elect the next dictator before someone else comes along and stages a successful coupe against that leader.

People that do not command their government will ultimately vote for who commands them. This has been the cultural erosion of the U.S. over the past 100 years.
