Right here we see Historia

She's riding on Connie's horse (as she has lost hers for the moment), and Ymir follows behind them. Additionally, notice that they are noticeably far away from where the Titan is being launched too, and that they are moving a little off angle from Reiner's thrown target direction.

At the bottom left panel of this page we see Armin and Hannes.

The Titan that was thrown crashes right next to them. There is further evidence as Jean is depicted right beside Hannes as well on the page just prior (we also see the Titan coming down overhead).

Also, there could have been a chance it was Historia; however, I'd say the hair doesn't match, but more proof is Historia is basically laped over on the horse laying over to where her head sits on the horses right. The image of the person looking back has their head turned to the left of the horses side, and is sitting upright (not to mention Connie nor Ymir is anywhere nearby).

This also shows that Armin is moving in the direction that is opposite the one the Mom Titan is shown walking at the end of the chapter.

Mom Titan ==> Eren and Mikasa <=== Armin, Hannes, Jean, etc.

I tried to find it, but there's even a picture of the Mom Titan by other Titans... but after spending too much time with no results I've given up.
mmmmmm.. i like your findings. it tells me that the initial explosion couldn't have been armin shifting. But i could also say that armin shifted because of harm from a thrown titan, because they are in the same area as eren and mikasa. :hint:

That would make sense; however, the only problem is direction.

Mikasa's horse at the time was at the head of the column meaning no one was in front of her. Armin was behind them, and even behind Hanessa and Jean. Mom Titan was seen coming directly st the head of the column, but additionally there was no one else seen in that direction (meaning that the column is still behind Mikasa/Eren) more notable is that the horse Armin is riding would/should bee visible if this is the case.

Lastly, there should have been some form of explosion or massive release of steam, but there noticeably is not one.

I see what you're saying, but I don't think this will turn out to be the case.

I still think it's a great theory. Would have made for an insane plot twist.

Do you all find it strange that only Armin knew where they were taking Eren? Only he saw where they went. I think he transformed into a titan to protect himself.

My mind is NOT blown.

Doesn't point to it being Armin at all, to me anyway. The hair is different. Same color sure. The face doesn't look like Armin. + It just looks weak.

Armin = Erwin. He's the next generation. Super awesome strategist. He won't be a shifter.

Eren's Titan Form looks nothing like him either.
