I must ask a most legitemate question. What is the reason that people prefer japanese dub with english subtitles opposed to English dub. I've heard some say that the voice actors suck, but I can honestly see that with both situations. Some say its due to censorship issues. Can people really be THAT nitpicky?

I recently baught the new game for the ps3, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja: Storm Generations and invited a few friends over to play it. When I told them I play with english dub voices, they all looked at me as if I were on drugs (which I am NOT!).

I wish someone will answer my question with legit facts and not just say "cuz it just is". That will be considered :flaw:COWABUNGA F**K:flaw:. Thank you and NAGATO UZUMAKI FTMFW!!!!!

It all depends on opinion.

I, personally, prefer listening to the original Japanese audio, mainly because the seiyū's give a better performance and use more emotion in their voice than English voice-actors. I tend to learn new words whilst watching Japanese subbed anime, as well.
Also, dubbed anime usually cuts out stuff, like how Viz cut out some scenes of blood or violence from the first series of Naruto.

However, not everyone likes to read subtitles, so those types of people may prefer dubbing. Some might actually like the English VAs, as well.

In my opinion, it all depends on the dubs. For example: In the Fairy Tail dub Happy sounds like a girl. Happy is no girl! D<
And, the reason I like subs is because they come out way before the dub version, and then I wouldn't feel like watching the dub version because I already saw the subbed version.

I find dubs lame and I'm very fond of japanese language, so I really like hearing it I guess?

the dub voices are over-exaggerated and the sound quality isn't as crisp

the Japanese culture and language is complicated and dubs often don't give off the same feeling as the original. the greatest example are the jokes.

Well in my opinion you have to watch a show in his original language because that just sounds more beautiful in my opinion :ghehe:
Plus I once watched a few Naruto episodes in English dubbed, but it was so awful! The characters all sounded too childish and that really threw me off. And well I just don't like hearing Japanese characters speak English I guess.
But everyone has their own opinion, so some will prefer the dubbed version while others prefer the subbed version.
Plus with the original language I can check how much I already understand ;)
And what Ninetails Fox said. Jokes sound better in Japanese, especially when they use puns ^^

Subs have more emotion. The english dub is good in Naruto. The Soul Eater dub is shit. They were so awful. Death Note was amazing.

All depends on various things.

Depends on the anime, i grew up with the dubs of Naruto on cartoon network so i tend to gravitate to those, though in most dubs, IMO, the english voice actors tend to over act and ruin it for me o.o

:flaw:

I get the gist of their arguments. They all somewhat say that it is your personal preferance. Does that answer your question?

I also grew up with dubbed Naruto, so I guess I am also somewhat immune to its supposed horribleness. However, If you wish to see overacting, Listen to A (4th Raikage) when he gets worked up in Japanese dub. Tell me that isn't overkill (although it is quite funny)!!!
