I think both friendships have to do with rivalry, but also similarities. Hashirama lost his siblings, Madara lost his siblings. Naruto and Sasuke were both orphans with no clan left. But it seems like Madara was a two face... look

He hated hearing Hashirama's name, even as a shinobi of Konoha, but he is also good friends with him.

The relationship between naruto and sasuke is shit. It makes no goddamn and it's full of asspulls, where as hashi and madara's is bit more realistic and mature in contrast. Even later in gaiden and boruto(where they supposedly came to realzation and mutual understanding), hashirama and madara's friendship outclassed their's in every relevant way

Friendship worth 10 chapters get a better highlight and treatment than a friendship worth more than 600 chapters.

Sasuke never in slightest praise Naruto before VOTE2. But Madara as a kid already admitted that Hashirama better than him and never talked about revenge tho. Just a praise words in which it heavy for Sasuke to said it. Just a revenge.

Madara's and Hashi if I had to pick out of your list. You can't really define Naruto and Sasuke as friends. What kind of friend would betray the village and attempt to kill Naruto. This is not a psychological issue but a personal jealosy issue. It was also forced at the end only to get rid of the Brothers fued.

Madara and Hashi on the other hand though fighting against each other, the dream they shared together to build the Leaf Village was a definition of friendship.

But the series best friendships were really Naruto and Gaara, Itachi and Shisui, Nagato and Yahiko, Ino and Sakura. These friendships didn't endure any sides of butthurt from both sides.

I was with you till "Ino and Sakura" not trying to bash or anything but the last bit of friendship they showed was in the chunin exams, during their fight. Iirc even when Asuma died Sakura didn't give 2 shits.

OT: imo, Naruto never had any reason to be hung up on Sasuke, Naruto and Sasuke was a really one sided affair.

Hashi and Madara's friendship made more sense, easily. They met as just two kids who knew they were in the middle of a war but wanted to still experience having fun and forget about fighting for a bit.

Naruto and Sasuke's friendship felt so forced, part 2 had to have so much backstory to try and make up this secret bond that Naruto and Sasuke had. Sasuke supposedly was friends with Naruto in the academy before and after the massacre as they "bonded" over both being orphans, then why in the first episode, first arc does it seem like they never spoke to each other and that Naruto hates sasuke because he thinks he is an over achiever and acts cool? Then you have chapter 698 where Sasuke suddenly decides yes he does care for Naruto? The only time I can remember Sasuke doing something purely for Naruto is when they were fighting Haku and Sasuke jumps infront of the needles to protect Naruto, but thats still just similar to Chouji volunteering to stay back and fight jirobo in the Sasuke retrival arc.

I always wondered if it had been someone else like Shikamaru who left to try and join Orochimaru, would Naruto spazz out and try so desperately to bring him back aswell.

Sasuke's character annoyed me so I may be biased tbh.

They don't have a friendship, they are brothers in spirit. Therefore they both have that common brotherly relationship of competitiveness and trying to outdo the other, while also never showing praise for when they do something better than you and they get mad and try harder to get better than them.

Naruto and Sasuke aren't the type of friends who'd go play together or joke around, they're the type that have a mutual respect for another that they're both too proud to admit.

I don't know Sasuke and Naruto are more inclined towards comradeship rather than friendship.....i mean those two never acted like friends...good as a team but Madara and Hashirama felt like real friends....i mean have you ever seen Naruto and Sasuke have a proper conversation in part 1 without bashing each others heads.....i dont remember such things....a feeling of competition and jealously was there but friendship naah......untill and unless you count that they both understood each other just with feelings and all that shit.....maybe thats how two improbable guys have a friendship....Naruto chasing after Sasuke seemed more on Sakura's behalf initially later on maybe he felt differently...but Madara and Hashirama had a nice friendship till the time Madara actually went cuckoo....
