Gaara also definitely had it worse than Itachi. Gaara felt no love at all for so long. He lived his entire life being seen as a weapon, where the only question was which side would he explode on.

I didn't sleep at all last night as a means of fixing my sleeping schedule, and it really put my mind in perspective about Gaara. I feel like shit, just one night without enough sleep leaves you feeling shit, imagine spending a vast majority of your life never sleeping. For about 16 years, that makes life a living hell.

Never getting to sleep, the only person who ever displayed affection to him trying to kill him and calling him a monster, your family shunning you aside, not loving you but being scared of you, forcing to live with homicidal urges and psychopathic mind state. Gaara definitely felt worse than Itachi did, that's not even debatable, the sleep thing alone is enough to determine that.

6. Had to live with the resulting psychological trauam

7. After abandoning all of his bonds, relationships and friendships to kill Itachi, he realized this actually achieved nothing. Sasuke sacrificed his childhood, the chances to make real friends and develop close and true bonds, to carry out an execution on someone who really loved him. Imagine if you sacrificed everything you have, your family, friends, jobs, life, only to find out what you sacrificed it for was really a bad thing you did

Not only should you not refer to anime, but even more so you should not refer to filler. That's a very big mistake.

itachi legit killed the parents though. But let's see sasuke basically did the same except killing his family.
Had felt betrayed by his brother for slaying his parents in front of him
Had to be psychologically damaged by itachi massacring their entire clan albeit it was obito but tsukyomi can alter that.
Murdered and hurt more people than someone can count
Finds out his own village is the reason everything happened
Finds out that his life was based on a lie
Saw his brother die before his eyes the brother he idolized
Was constantly manipulated his entire life
Didn't really have any friends ever besides Naruto fan girls don't even count
The world hates him
Sasuke is literally a psychologically scarred character BECAUSE of itachi, even Itachi admitted he failed. So I guess one mist ask themselves who had it worst.

Itachi had it the worst. I would gladly take Sasuke's life over killing my own family, watching my Friend kill himself, being diagnosed with a terminal illness and being hated by everyone who I sacrificed my family's life protecting.

Yeah but he was not neglected nor insulted nor hated by everyone, unlike Naruto. This solitude you speak was his own choosing, he could have easily went back to Konoha even after witnessing Rin's death and have been friends with everyone, he did not regret doing anything he did either, until the very end.

In the deciding moments there was somebody by the side of naruto, when he found out the ninetails inside of him and that´s why everybody hated him iruka was there to confort him and save him, when he coward up in his first real shinobi battle sasuke and kakashi were there, kakashi even told him he wouldnt let his comrades be killed, when jiraya died shikamaru came to conlsole him, when neji died he was about to get tnj by obito but hinata saved him, when he got the power of nine tails, his mother appear, when he was about to unleash the ninetails minato was there, even if he did not get to know his parents in childhood he met them later and they loved him, he felt that even if he was no longer a kid, all obito had was the dispair that madara caused, you see in all narutos crucial moments he had somebody by his side while obito in the most crucial moments he had madara who only saw him as a tool and took his good intentions and twisted them, your understimating the power loneliness, for him rin was his family and his only ray of life, there was no reason to come back to that place for him when all was darknest to him, besides depression is not logical, dont expect a depress person to think straight, im not saying he had it worst but he remained alone while the others found love and friendship eventually, he in noway had it easier

And this is why comparing pain is actually worthless as **** when you think about it. How do we know that shit hurt Itachi more than the stuff Sasuke went through hurt him? You can't measure emotional pain, there are no indicators, other than the fact that Sasuke's sanity lapsed several times, that either of them were hurt more. You can't really measure pain like this, we're both kinda wrong for trying to say either of them had it worse.

First off, you can't measure pain. But to keep focus on topic, this is my list of 5:

1). Madara/Hashirama - They fought in war as kids, their closest people were killed brutally, and they couldn't experience the life of a born child would experience, due to the era they were born at.

2). Jinchuuriki - All Jinchuuriki suffer loneliness, hate and sadness, due to the monsters they carry. They're seen nothing but military weapons.

3). Kakashi - His father committed suicide, his best friends were killed in war, he couldn't protect his sensie, and his longtime friend revealed to be a villain. Overall, his life is all about burden.

4). Kabuto - Never knew who his parents, family were. Ignorant of general stuff. Used by government.

5). Obito - Poor kid was mentally manipulated his entire life by Madara. His whole life is a fraud planned by Madara.​

dude your completly missing the point the other user said that there´s no point in comparing the pain of one person to another´s pain and you used that to argue that itachi´s pain was greater, like i said i´m not saying obito had it worst but he wasnt in a confortable position either, pain is pain, not all people are the same some people can take more pain than others , yes obito could have gotten back to the leaf and may be the things could have gone better but he didnt know he could fill the hole in his heart with other people, naruto taught him that, how do you expect a person to take a desicion they dont even know about?he was a kid or teen at the time you, not a grownup man with good judgement, for him at the moment the obvious desicion was to go to madara and complete IT so he could fill the hole in his heart, naruto had people who pulled him out of the darknest, his rays of ligth you could say, itachi even though he killed his whole family and clan had 1 ray of light left sasuke that is, he loved sasuke, as for obito when rin died he lost his only ray of light and was left in darkness, the pain of one person cannot be measure with the pain of other, none of them had it easy

The point of the thread was to say who had it the hardest. Of course, not even Neji had it easy, but the pain he suffered cannot compare too some of the others here. Itachi having a harder life then Obito and Sasuke is basically canon, I will leave it at that.

Had the worst childhood?
By far Gaara. He was told his mother hated him, he thought his uncle hated him, his uncle was the closest person to him and attempted to annihilate him- he felt betrayed, he couldn't sleep for more than a few minutes at a time and therefore he had a legit excuse to be mentally unstable (unlike most Naruto characters ), he thought his father loathed him, his father sealed a bijuu inside him, he was alone from the start, his own siblings were afraid of him, all villagers feared him, he was raised to be a weapon and nothing more. But, people still might not list him at having it the worst because he's a Kazekage now, with people praising him and an entire village backing him up. His life is great now and he's young with a bright, wonderful future.

Had the worst life overall?
By far Itachi, at least as far as what happened to them. However, people might not list him because he could handle the burden and didn't snap like everyone else or sink into despair at any point in his life like all other characters have in the series- Uchiha or not (Kakashi, Obito, Madara, Sasuke, Gaara, Nagato, Kabuto,etc). He also chose it to an extent- he could have run away and let the war occur to save his own skin, but his decent morals wouldn't allow that so he did what he did. He's selfless to an insane degree. He was content with suffering if it meant other people were happy.

Who reacted the worst?
Some fans measure pain by taking what a character went through and greatly exagerrating it, just as the character they fanboy/fangirl over does for themselves. Sasuke and Madara win that, they throw constant pity parties for themselves, didn't have the maturity to let go of the past and move forward, and cause themselves pain when they don't have to. Looking at some comments and seeing how a few fans already exaggerated Sasuke's past by stating the same points in a different fashion as well as leaving out the sad points of other character's lives confirms that.

Even if Itachi takes all the blame for Sasuke's negative behaviour, as a fandom we know that isn't entirely true. The only things Itachi is reponsible for is using genjutsu on Sasuke...this hurt Itachi more considering that he was hurting who he loved and wanted to protect the most all while knowing that Sasuke hated him with every fiber of his being. Sasuke also saw the clan die by Itachi's hands...but he knew none of them bar his Aunt, Uncle, Mother, and Father...Itachi knew more and had to live the rest of his life in disgrace knowing what he did. He was 7 going on 8 at the time...Itachi was only 4 when he saw 1000s of people massacred in the 3rd Shinobi War. That's worse, also the fact that the sharingan is a measure of an Uchiha's pain and that Sasuke didn't even get all 3 tomoe until he was 13 whereas Itachi had 3-tomoe and was proficient in genjutsu by the time he was 8...this isn't a contest tbh. Then the rest of Sasuke's pain is a result of his own actions, not anyone else's. He wasn't forced to kill anyone, unlike Itachi was when he was given a mission to annihilate his loved ones and they'd be annihilated if he raised his hand against them or not. Now that sucks.

All of this depends upon your perspective. But it is blatantly obvious who Kishimoto thinks had the worst past and it's stated by a few characters vaguely, already in the manga. Most of the fandom realizes who it is, anyway.

Itachi killed his entire family to save a village that came to despise him though he dedicated his entire life to protecting it and would have rather died as a criminal hated by everyone so that his younger brother could become a hero. Itachi died selflessly, alone and without anyone that truly understood him

Naruto had Hiruzen as a child and later Iruka.
Gaara at least had his siblings.
Nagato had Konan.
Sasuke had the entire village bending over backwards for him and he had Team 7, and then he had Karin, Suigetsu and Jūgo.

Itachi had no one.
