[Discussion] Who would make a better Hokage? Sasuke or Shikamaru?

Basing this on chapter 641. I think this is the second time someone hyped Shikamaru up as Hokage. Which is a much bigger deal than declaring yourself a Hokage candidate like Sakura or Kiba. Now you can say they were Asuma, his teacher, and Temari, who is now in love with him, but Kishi clearly believes he is worthy of the Hokage title. Or he wouldn't have bothered with those panels.

Sasuke - Has the power required to be Hokage. While not in Shikamaru's league, he is intelligent and has a good strategic mind. Having an Uchiha Hokage might right some of the wrongs in the past. Then everything falls apart. He doesn't care what others think. He doesn't have the power to change hearts. He is not a good leader. He is too impulsive and selfish. He still plans to betray Naruto and set up his own system.

Shikamaru - He lacks some of the power required, but has already proven his talent against the Akatsuki and during the war. Smartest guy in the manga. No one can challenge his intellect. Makes the right decisions. Values the opinion of others. Great leader. Master strategist. Can change hearts with his words. Cool and calm. Never panics. Not power hungry. Trusts Naruto.

Who would be better for Konoha?

Though Sasuke does have something in mind that in his view will lead to a better future apparently, which in itself is a manner of caring though we can say that he may mostly value their well-being for the sake of Itachi and in his own wish that something like what´s happened to him and his brother will never happen again, though I long to see what measure Sasuke has in mind to make such a thing reality.

Sasuke is more powerful, that the only thing he has going for him. Shikamaru is a great leader in most aspects already, what he lacks in strength, he makes up for in strategies, loyalties, will of fire, intelligence & realizes keeping the next generation safe & well is his main goal.

Sasuke views people as disposable. This is shown when he impaled Karin in the fight against Danzo. I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't want someone like that leading me. Sasuke will never make a good Hokage until his love of power is dwarfed by his power of love.

Which is perfectly fine since most of the uchihas have some mental problems, I think it was already confirmed, pretty much.

Definitely Shikamaru by far.

He's well respected by his peers, who are poised to take over the next generation, and everyone wouldn't have a problem with it at all except for Sasuke, obviously.

He may not be as strong, but he has his teammates to fill in. As a Hokage, he doesn't need to leave a village to solo someone, he needs to protect it, and he's the best one at keeping people alive. He really is.

The problem is, Shikamaru doesn't want to be a Hokage. It's a drag for him. Still, I praise his attitude after accepting great responsibilities. So, if the title of Hokage was granted to him, I believe he would still do his best.


Sasuke, he got the powers so he would make a great one ONLY if he changes the way he thinks.. His hatred needs to be completely gone in order to do that. Killing anyone isn't going to bring peace, I can see Sasuke doing it Tobirama/Danzo-style. If he is, everyone would be reminded of Sasuke's past, they would be stressed & be on their toes constantly and that isn't good.
I'd pick Shikamaru over Sasuke myself.

While Sasuke is the stronger of the two power wise without a doubt that's not what makes a good Hokage. I hope people don't get mad when I say this... But Shikamaru isn't a strong person. So Shikamaru can relate to how the weak feel. In addition, he excels in sizing up any situation. That why Shikamaru almost immediately knows what should be done. And in my opinion being able to size up a situation or opponent while understanding his people is what would make him a great choice for Hokage.

And no im not a Sasuke hater he is my fav character of the manga. I just think he is the big guns of a village or he should start his own village anew.

Despite Shikamaru's leadership skills, he's simply too weak to become Hokage.

Being strong is key to being an Hokage. Shinobi are unlikely to follow someone who is weaker than them.

Sasuke has the power it takes for the position.
