Who will be Makarov's successor?

Master Makarov has really been getting beat up in his appearances fighting during the manga. Granted he did finish Phantom by himself with Fairy Law, but he get beat up quite a bit before that...also his old Master Hades wrecked him.

So who will Makarov's successor be? Right now I'm thinking it's likely Gildarts or Laxus. I know Laxus is on exile for the moment, but when Makarov fell to Hades the one who would inherit his will was Laxus.

Anyway that's my thought, what do you think?

I agree that sooner or later Laxus would be better than Gildarts, but he does have a lot of growing up to do. I'm glad Laxus was the one to inherit Makarov's will and came to rescue Fairy Tail.
