It's not Toriyama, it's WSJ.

Toriyama wanted for Goku to stay dead after Cell saga, and Gohan to be main character after that and guy who will defeat Buu, that's why Goten was created in order to have 'little Goku' in the series.

I would rather have Goku protecting earth than Gohan. Gohan is s great hero aswell, the only flaw is that he gets too cocky and doesn't finish his enemy which often causes the enemy to get a power up due to Gohan's recklessness.

Tbh, Trunks is the best hero in Dbz, sure he gets cocky too but he doesn't play games unlike Gohan and Goku, Trunks will shit on you and get it over with U_U
