Minato we haven't seen much but he is very good at it from the little we know
Itachi he doesn't use it all the time since he is OP & his genjustu is what he normal use which by the way if u don't know is hard to escape

i usually dont support the uchiha due to the fanboys doing enough of it but i keep it real and dont favour anyone so....

itachi is the smartest i mean i know shika is smart and so i kakashi and minato etc but itachi has shown the ability to plan at least 8 to ten years or so in advance like sasuke was 8 when all that stuff happen if i remeber right and sumthing like 16 to 20 lets say when he beat itachi and it was all planned by itachi which is incredible to me so i mean i dunno about pure iq smarts but strategical smart goes to itachi and when it comes to fights and the ninja world strategical smarts is all that counts

When it comes to thinking on their feet/mid battle this goes to Kakashi and Itachi.


-With little Intel Kakashi was able to figure out Deva Paths' powers with ease.
-Itachi is figuring out Kabuto's battle tactics as we speak.

These two are the smartest.

-You can argue that Minato was able to figure out Tobi's phasing power but so did Torune, Konan and Kakashi

Itachi / Kakashi / Minato / Shikamaru

Its not really possible to tell exactly who of them is the smartest. Sasuke is not in that ligue, although hes great strategist as well.

You failed to mention that Itachi plan failed.So who cares.Shikimaru can plan within a battle without the help of a sharingan.Shikimaru attention to detail (no sharingan) and his strategic battle skill when he was a genin is just too much for someone who relives heavily on a dojutsu.

No one is talking about the Sharingan here so I don't even know why you're bringing that up. The Sharingan doesn't make you smarter...

Shikamaru can form strategies, but he needs time to do it. Itachi on the other hand has been able to make plans in the midst of battle and carry them out while in combat.



Shikamaru is more of the behind the scenes tactician - like what Shikaku has been doing for the alliance.

Itachi is more of the type to use his smarts in actual battle

Shikamaru takes time to think, but he his plans are absolutely brilliant. Great at preparing beforehand, but in battle things get complicated.

Minato and kakashi are good at analyzing the opponents strategy and countering nearly instantly. They are also very good strategists.

Itachi is more of a long term plotter, but his calm helps him figure out how to handle his opponents tactics in battle, similar to the 2 guys i just mentioned. He's also very good at reading and predicting his opponents. Probably deserves the #1 spot on the list.

Sasuke used to be pretty smart, but now he's just a spamming idiot who thought he could take the 5 kages head on and win.
