Well... Sasuke did seem to stop Itachi from making hand seals before and used hand seals to form a Katon parallel to Itachi's actions. The only way I see out of that is the whole loldidn'ttry idea. Overall though hand seals have gotten less attention lately, so they're not brought up as much.
