Kushina said the village was destroyed because people feared the Uzumaki sealing jutsus. Question is, who would destroy the village? The Uzu Village is an island right off the coast from the Land of Fire, and the Leaf Village was a long time ally to the Uzu.

I actually find it quite odd that it was destroyed but even more odd the the Uzumaki clan itself was whipped out. They were distant blood relatives of the Senju clan and as such, both were on good terms; an alliance that extended onto their hidden villages — Konohagakure and Uzushiogakure (the leaf even integrated their symbol on their uniforms).

They should've been protected.
