When caught up in all the action packed fray many animes offer, we sometimes forgot why is it people are even fighting in the first place? This leads me to wonder which shounen manga protag has the best or most reasonable reason to pummel? Who's your fav and why?

Goku(DBZ) - he simply fights because he likes it. Simple.

Naruto (Naruto) - to be acknowledge, become a great ninja, become hokage and reunite the ninja world

Ash (Pokemon) - he wants to be.... The very best. Da-da-da dun, like no one ever was. Dun dun dun

Ein (AoT) - to stop the fkn Titans

Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin) - he doesn't wanna fight but negroes keep starting with him

Ryu (Street Fighter) - he fights to find the answer as to why he does

Dante (DMC) - he gets paid to do jobs and also keeps the living world free from demons

Lil boy with hat (FLCL) - he has a robot poking out of his head. He doesn't have a choice.

I don't watch One Piece, Bleach or Fairytale so feel free to add those and tell us who is your fav and why.

Personally, I thknk Goku has the best reason. He simply fights because it's fun. That's wassup

I'll have to agree with Goku. I generally don't like main protagonists when it comes to manga, but Goku did what he did by choice. Sure, he wanted to save his friends and civilizations when he could.. but when it boiled down to it, Goku was having fun most of the time.

He didn't do what he did because he felt obligated to, he did what he did because he liked a challenge and wanted to become stronger. And he did so without becoming corrupt.

Erin, watch humanity and your mother eaten in front of you, simply eaten like their nothing but livestock. The amount of hatred in his heart must be overbearing, you can understand why he feels the way he does.

Eren..It's either fight or extinction.
Dante for the most stylish execution though

Eren's character was ruined when he became a Titan. I hope he kills himself. Fake ass Guts tbh, except Guts didn't become what he was aiming to destroy. I know it wasn't his doing, but imo the author messed up with that one. He should have had humans have some kind of breakthrough that would help them defeat titans instead of making Eren one.

OT: Out of the people you listed I like Ryu's reason. I don't know much about SF, but that concept is interesting.

Goku has the worst reason. I think Naruto does out of all of them.

Goku's is too simple. Like most of Dragon Ball Z, it's not complex, it's not deep, it's basic sugar coated with fancy food die to look like more than it is, it's a basic reason that was just made cooler.

Ash's is too general and cliche.

In my opinion it's either Naruto or Luffy, maybe both. Naruto fights to be acknowledged as well as for what he believes is right, while Luffy has fought for many reasons, ranging from saving his friends, to his own freedom, to "You bought me food once." It's weird because the reason Luffy fights most of the time is so selfless, but also for himself in some way.

Eren also fits in, but can also be cliche. Eren is essentially Batman if he was also the Joker. Still, that's a good twist, so I'll rank him there with Luffy and Naruto.

Yea Ryu is very cryptic when it comes down to it. I'm not sure exactly what his goal is and I don't think he knows either... He might have aspergers

Sometimes simple is the best. DBZ is a great show because it doesn't hold your hand like Naruto does how they always explain how a battle was just fought, or how a jutsu works or what just happened. I like it a lot don't get me wrong but DBZ gives you the characters, gives you their main goals and let's you fill in all the gaps for them.

Vegeta wants to be the strongest because In a sense he's supposed
To be but this lower class Saiyan keeps surpassing him.... Why? It's quite interesting when you dwell on it. Why is goku so strong and how? He shouldn't be but he is.

I completely disagree. A major theme of AoT has consistently been ¨In order to save and protect what you want, you have to do ugly things.¨ Armin said it best ¨those who can't sacrifice anything can't save anything¨, and one of the things stressed as a sacrifice in the AoT series as sacrificial is your humanity. By becoming a titan, Eren perfectly became the very embodiment of that theme, which makes him a pretty good character.

Really, it's Light/Kira. Anyone who says otherwise is a damn fool.

You literally pointed one of only two real depths DBZ had, Vegeta and Frieza being them. simplicity may be good sometimes, but it's never the best. There's a reason you read The Invisible Man and To Kill a Mockingbird in classes and not The Berenstein Bears, and why Don Quixote is considered the greatest literary work ever made, and not books like Arthur.

what gaps did DBZ even have? what parts of DBZ were people debating and pondering on when it ended? Nothing but versus match-ups.

Vegeta had a better reason to fight than Goku did to be honest. His reason to fight was for the sake of fighting. How is that really exciting when he's pitted against different opponents? The only thing Goku had going for him was his character design and powers. Other wise as a character he was a pretty average character.
