Potency is much harder to acquire outside the realms of innate talent than size, so it's logical to pick potency, and then build on size so you have both.

Massive chakra is better bcus it can give you both type of attacks output. You can have an attack with high potency or an attack with massive amount of energy inside or an attack with high Potency plus massive power.

Massive chakra not mean your chosen attack doesnt have potency. Take Naruto for example, if he learn any high potency jutsu, he can perform it on higher scale/massive scale as he got massive chakra for back up.

Having potent chakra and using it effciently is a hit or miss. Its like someone with a rocket launcher having 2 or 3 ammo, vs a guy with 20 or more grenades. Anybody with a large chakra pool and CC can be a beast.

Not to mention that with larger reserves you can use shadow clones to basically master any tech to peak efficiency and squeeze years of training into a few weeks.

A large chakra reserve is better because possessing a large amount of chakra means you can learn (or at least have the potential to learn) sage mode. Natural energy increases the strength of chakra so with sage mode you would have the best of both worlds. A large amount of chakra and power chakra.
