I can't verify this, but i'm about 99% sure that Kakashi wears the mask because he kept getting mistaken for his disgraced father...and at the time Kakashi thought of him as a coward, because of his suicide...He wanted to distinguish himself from his father...And it is already established that he is handsome underneath it...so...no metal jaw.

Seriously tonnes of characters in this manga (not only this one) have parts of their faces covered. It suits his character. I don't mind not seeing his face for the remainder of series.

Kakashi is way to cool... he has to many haters wanting him dead... so he hides his face... so people don't get jealous of his face and order hits out on him... Stupid but what can you do...

I think the reason why Kakashi wears a mask has something to do with this nose.. his sense of smell.. the way he can sense ninja's through his nose.. the cloth must have some kind of connection to smell.. through wich he can smell human scent.. may b the cloth can filter out human scents through all the other scents.. wich can help him during scouting or tracking mission.. bet thats y he wears it all the time when he was a kid too.. so he can get used to it!!

My guess is that he was ashamed of being the son of the White Fang so tried to remove any resemblance by wearing the mask. After a while it just became a part of him.
