.) Itachi was ANBU black ops captain at 13, so he has to have mad skills at tracking, information gathering, etc. for locating Kabuto. Thus, I kind of doubt he has to have sensory ninja abilities to find this place, especially as that would screw with the plot. As well, I don't really want to read manga panels every now and then of Itachi jumping from tree to tree branch or zombie Itachi interrogating someone (the latter of which is just odd), lol.
.) However, time doesn't really flow normally in Naruto, when Kishi is writing about one stage (say Naruto et al. vs. Tobi and his six paths), and he has other stages such as Itachi, Sasuke, and the 5 Kages vs. Madara, get time-slowed to a degree; otherwise, by the time the events of one stage are resolved/resolving all the other stages would have cleared as well without us seeing what the hell happened (e.g. Madara vs. the 5 Kages would be over or too far advanced by now if time was not slowed by Kishi to let us see the actual fight. Then when he switches to the fight, both sides tend to look fatigued some (granted ET's won't), there'll be destroyed landscape, and some discussion about what's transpired, but really nothing important has...), lol. xd

.) Itachi was a hardcore ninja, so maybe he needed a break before ending the zombie ninja nightmare that is Impure World Resurrection (IWR) cast by Kabuto. Thus, I don't know,..., maybe after breaking out of Kabuto's control, he broke out of Kishi's control and used his restored vision to read Jiraiya's book collection, which was the true reason that they didn't fight pre-time-skip (Itachi had to be sure more books would be published). Further, he decided to pay his hometown a visit for ol' time sakes and went to Ichiraku's for some ramen and plenty of saki, found a nice female companion, and some late night gambling - the three vices of shinobi, lol. You only live twice in his case, and his first life kind of sucked, so I'm giving him a slide on this vivacious diversion so long as gets back on track and goes out with a bang.

.) Thus far, Kishi has demonstrated a superb ability when it comes to writing Itachi's dialogue and choreographing his fighting scenes; thus I'm not worried about what happens when Itachi actually does appear, just wondering when he's going to appear, lol. It's kind of hard to fit him into the story right now. I mean bouncing back between Naruto, Sasuke, and the 5 Kages vs. Madara feels fluid, but bouncing in Itachi feels a bit awkward atm (or maybe overload); therefore I think one of these may be resolved somewhat before Itachi appears. One way to do that is by bringing Sasuke into an existing battlefield I suppose to contract a dimension of character space essentially by putting two on the same plane, lol.
Kishi is a good writer though, and I'm no fiction writer, so while I may not see a way it works well (not like I've spent much more than the past few moments considering it), I'm sure Kishi has worked this out in multiple ways with depth already.
